Why we Lubricate Bearings For 4000 years we have been lubricating our machinery and rotating assets to increase their efficiency, reliability and lifespan. Proper bearing lubrication minimizes the surface contact of machinery, reducing undesired friction, excessive heat, metal-on-metal contact and wear and tear. Lubrication not only protects ball and roller-element bearings from themselves by reducing friction but also from corrosion and the elements. Grease is the lubrication of choice within the industry, as it is easy to apply and it provides the bearing housing with a protective seal from the elements. For a procedure proven reliable for the past 4 millennia, it is surprising to hear so many premature bearing failures are lubrication-related. Improper lube selection, amount, intervals as well as lubricant contamination and degradation are to blame.

Calcium sulfonate greases are commonly used in automotive, agriculture, construction, mining, paper production, iron and steel mills and the food industry. Specific automotive applications include chassis, ball joints, universal joints and wheel bearings. Industrial applications include continuous casters, conveyors, ball mills, crushers, offshore and underwater applications. Calcium sulfonate greases are also used in motorized steam valves to control high pressure steam. These steam valves are typically found in nuclear power plants and thermal manufacturing stations. It is also known that the calcite particles found in calcium sulfonate greases make them a good choice for high temperature applications. Calcium sulfonate greases are generally beneficial in rust-inhibiting performance and oxidation stability is considered good or excellent. Rust inhibitors are surfactants that neutralize acids on the metal surface.

Arga Complex 2, is based on high quality base oils and anti-oxidant, anti-corrosion, anti-rust, extreme pressure (EP) and anti-wear (AW) additives. The lithium complex soap makes this grease suitable to use in applications which require wide temperature range and elevated temperatures. Its high mechanical stability improves the grease performance in vibrating bearings and extends re-greasing intervals.

Electric motors for high speed application (approx. 6.000 up to approx. 30.000min1) need to be designed with special concern for bearings, greasing and ventilation.
