Knight Optical has successfully launched a range of Stock Optical Domes for use in Pyronometers. Pyranometer/pyrgeometer are used for measuring solar irradiance. Typical applications being to understand where insulation needs to be within a building, climate studies and solar monitoring systems. A dome is essentially a window that has two parallel curves faces. Domes are used to shield the thermopile/ sensor used for making the measurements within a Pyranometer. Our domes are polished to high standards having good form error and high clarity with excellent transmission in the UV, NIR and FarIR spectrums allowing for accurate measurement. As UVC sterilisation becomes more prevalent, Knight Optical can offer UV domes to house LEDs and LED arrays, as well as other light sources. We stock ready-to-order 50mm and 100mm UV fused silica domes with high transmission down to 185nm, meaning it encompasses the traditionally used UVC light sources – KCl excimer lamps (222nm), mercury lamps (254nm) and LEDs (265nm, 273nm and 280nm). Knight Optical can also provide custom domes, including with a flange for easier mounting, manufactured from UV fused silica. Also available are optical coatings to enhance the performance of the dome. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Dome Windows, for use with Underwater Lighting. A dome is an optical window composed of two parallel curved surfaces. Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Using a curved dome optical surface allows for an increased beam angle, therefore allowing a greater area to be lit from one light source. For visible applications, N-BK7 with its high optical quality and uniform transmission and low absorption in the visible spectrum makes it an ideal material for underwater lighting. A tough and cost effective solution which allows for good transmission of the light source in the underwater environment will both protect the light source as well as transmitting from 300nm up to 2µm.
