In these systems it is obvious that shaft materials are as important as the bushings. igus® blazes a new trail with an enclosed and maintenance-free plain bearing concept. iglidur® PEP is an entirely novel lubricant-free plastic plain bearing system with an inner and outer ring. Special feature: The running partner is determined by the inner ring and for the first time, the material and surface finish of the shaft are insignificant. Even thread, rust or scratches do not affect the long-term reliable function. By the specification of the gliding partner and extensive series of tests, the long-term behavior of the bearing system can be precisely forecast. With the PEP polymer plain bearing, the inner ring rotates with the shaft like in ball bearings Relative movements of the shaft to the bearing are dispensed with. This protects the shaft surface from wear and saves costs. Another plus point: Even the most sensitive or unusual materials for the rotating shaft can be used with these new polymer bearings. The PEP polymer bearings are thereby absolutely free from material-dependent corrosion. Wear resistance The wear test results are absolutely convincing with loads up to 5 N/mm². Here the PEP polymer bearings attain values that are virtually comparable with those of the most wear-resistant plastic-steel bearing systems. An exceedingly satisfying result when you consider the costs saved by dispensing with the otherwise essential surface treatment of the shaft. The constantly low friction-coefficient level is also an advantage for the user. As the glide partners are fixed by the defined system, their tribological data too are accurately predictable. The coefficients of friction of the lubricant-free bearing are not determined any more by the shaft materials or surface conditions. If necessary, the coefficients of friction can be further lowered by additional minimum lubrication. For this reason the bearing has a flange on each of the two front sides. After the clip-on the bearings are secured on both sides in the plate. The clip bearings have chamfered slot on the side that enables the mounting of the bearing on one side. After the mounting the bearing straddles and lines the bore in the plate. The shaft prevents the clip bearing from slipping out of the bore. The bearing cannot slip out of the bore even in axial movements. The bearings are self-lubricating and can be used dry. If required the bearings can also be lubricated. The material iglidur® M250 is resistant to all common lubricants. The iglidur® clip bearings are the ideal solution for bearing functions with low loads. The easy mounting makes it ideal for applications with difficult bearing locations. Compressive strength The permitted static surface pressure of iglidur® M250 amounts to 20 MPa at room temperature. Due to the good adaptability to uneven surfaces of the bearing housing, a high pressure load capacity of the clip bearings persists even in punched holes. For the most small bearing surfaces, the good vibration dampening properties and the insensitivity to misalignment are of primary importance. Surface speeds Clip bearings are particularly wear resistant in slow rotating, oscillating and axial motions. You can find the maximum gliding speeds for the various motions for the iglidur® M250 material under the materials data link shown below. A lubrication at installation or continuous lubrication raises the permitted surface speeds. Clip bearings are available from stock in dimensions of 3 to 25 mm. Fixation Triflex RS For mounting, the bearings are laterally pressed together with the large flange. The chamfered slot makes the bearing spiral-shaped, whereby it can be easily inserted in the plate. The remaining slot in the attached clip bearing can compensate for linear expansions of the circumference. Thus narrow bearing clearances are possible with clip bearings. The bearing clearance is dimensioned in such a way that in a housing bore with a nominal diameter, a shaft made with the same nominal diameter turns easily. The clip bearing can be used in H-tolerance housings up to H13. The turning of the clip bearing in the bore is also permitted. Operating temperatures The wear resistance of the iglidur® clip bearings are excellent with operating temperatures till 80°C. Even at low temperature the bearings remain elastic and abrasion resistant. When to use it? They are designed with a large clearance in the standard product, which enables a secure operation even under high peripheral speeds. The bore of the inner ring has a tolerance according to E10. The shafts should have a tolerance between h6 and h9. Please contact us in case you require lower or more bearing tolerances. Loads igubal® rod end bearings take high forces in normal ambient temperatures, have excellent dampening properties and weigh only a fifth of the conventional metallic bearing housing. In particular cases the load carrying capacity of the rod end bearings should be checked in a practical trial especially with high constant loads and at higher temperatures. Coefficients of surface friction and speeds Rotary motions of the mounted shaft take place directly in the bearing ball made of iglidur® W300. The advantage of this plastic/steel plain bearing is that high speeds can be achieved in dry operation. Taking the radial loads into account, maximum surface speeds up to 0.5 m/s rotating can be attained. The maintenance-free igubal® rod end bearings casually permit linear and oscillating movements of the shaft. Delivery program igubal® rod end bearings are available in the dimensional series K and E for shaft diameters of 2 to 30 mm in all dimensions according to DIN ISO 12240, and of course respectively in the Form A - with male thread and Form B - with female thread The dimensional series K and partly E are moreover available in inch dimensions and – as special version – with a stainless steel sleeve in the spherical ball. Thereby an essentially higher tightening torque is possible than with the plastic spherical ball.
