Reinforced threaded inserts allow threaded holes which have been damaged, torn out or jammed to be used again or to be repaired. This makes it possible to recover scrap and rejects of expensive products. Reinforced threaded inserts are suitable for use in various materials, including light metals and casting. Inserts with internal threads larger than M6 are supplied with four locking pins instead of two. Permissible deviations: The medium tolerance class applies to the threads listed, i.e. 6H for nut threads and 6g for bolt threads. Other dimensions ±0.25 mm. With reinforced threaded inserts we also offer a version with a stronger cross-section for use in applications with greater stress. Self-tapping threaded inserts for making high-strength, wear-free, vibration resistant screw connections in materials with low shear strength such as aluminium and aluminium alloys, brass, bronze, cast iron, duro and thermoplastics. The threaded inserts are tapered at the bottom and have a cutting slot. By screwing in they cut their own threads inside a receiver hole. This guarantees a completely secure and firm anchoring in the host material. Internal thread D1 acc. to ISO 6H. The threaded inserts with cutting slot spring slightly inwards in the slot region in some materials. This results in a screw locking effect. If this is not desired, we recommend the threaded inserts with a cutting bore.

Moulded-In Inserts are placed over core pins by an operator or a pick-and-place robot prior to the closure of the mould cavity during the plastic injection process. Moulded-In Inserts offer exceptional torque and pull-out resistance due to unrestricted plastic flow around the Insert body, and are often the Insert of choice for thermosets and engineered plastics with a high percentage of filler. The minor thread diameter tolerance is controlled to ensure positive positioning and perpendicularity of the Insert on the core pin during the moulding process. Series 63 is symmetrical eliminating orientation and Series 65 is the same body style in a blind ended version. SPIROL's Moulded-In Inserts are made from 2024 aluminium, a light-weight, lead-free grade. SPIROL’s Series 63 and Series 65 Moulded-In Aluminium Inserts are available in thread sizes ranging from M4 (8-32) up to M8 (5/16-18).

The course external thread of SPIROL's Self-Tapping Insert forms an internal thread within a molded or pre-drilled hole during the installation process into a plastic assembly. SPIROL Series 10 Self-Tapping Inserts are thread forming Inserts best suited for softer thermoplastics or thermosets. Self-Tapping Inserts provide the best pull-out resistance for a post-mold installed Insert, yet generally cost more than their post-mold counterparts. The external threads are designed with a thin profile to minimize induced stress in the plastic and have a relative coarse pitch to provide the maximum plastic shear surface to resist pull-out.

Press-In Inserts are designed to be pressed into a straight hole without melting the plastic prior to installation. Ideal for use in softer plastics, the helical knurls of the Press-In Inserts are used to provide both torque and pull-out resistance and to ensure good plastic flow as the Insert rotates into the hole. Installation torque to achieve sufficient tension between the threads is not a problem in that the helical knurls are designed so that the direction of the installation torque will have the tendency to drive the Insert into the hole — which of course is not possible — as the threaded joint is tightened. A pilot only slightly smaller than the hole and of sufficient length is designed to assure straight insertion into the hole. Press-In Inserts offer rapid installation with no specialized equipment and achieve good overall joint performance. If installation equipment is required, SPIROL also offers a standard comprehensive line of Insert Installation Equipment.

Heat / Ultrasonic Inserts are designed for post-mould installation in thermoplastics. Heat and ultrasonic installation yield outstanding performance results. SPIROL offers several different series of Heat/Ultrasonic Inserts available in a long and short version of each thread size. Long lengths maximize torque and pull-out resistance, while short lengths are good for less stringent requirements at lower cost and shorter installation times. Some styles are available with or without a head. The head provides bearing surface for the mating component that also prevents jack-out (or when used in reverse, can prevent pull through). However, adding a head results in additional cost raw material of a larger diameter is required to create the head. Some non-headed Inserts are symmetrical – thus eliminating the need to orient the Insert prior to installation.

The required torque is set by a set screw and a graduated scale. The set value can be secured using the lateral clamping screw. When the set torque is reached the grip audibly and palpably releases. The loosening torque is higher than the tightening torque so that the torque handle can be released without any problems. The internal thread version has a hole in the set screw so that the torque handle can also be used on threaded rods. Set torque accuracy ± 5%. On request: Other thread lengths.

Some of SPIROL's standard Pin Installation Models can be equipped with a pusher punch (in place of a pin insertion quill) to press Threaded Inserts into plastic assemblies. The most appropriate Installation Machine depends on the actual insertion force required to press the Insert into the plastic hole and the desired productivity. Generally speaking, the Model PMH Heavy Duty Installation Machine is typically used for low to medium volume installation, and for medium to high volume installation, SPIROL's Model PH/PHX Platen-Style Installation Machines can be used for simultaneous installation of several Press-In Inserts at the same or different elevations. Due to the length to diameter ratio of Press -In Inserts, it is not possible to cost-effectively tube feed this type of Threaded Insert with SPIROL's automatic feeding and Installation machines.

The SPIROL Model PH Heat Insert Driver provides an accurate and consistent method to simultaneously install multiple Threaded Inserts or Compression Limiters at multiple elevations. Simultaneous installation dramatically increases productivity and simplifies the number of manufacturing steps to complete an assembly. Additionally, the platen head and fixture can be easily changed to accommodate quick change-over to different assemblies associated with new production runs. This machine can be used to install 12 Inserts into 1 assembly, or a fewer number of Inserts into a larger number of assemblies – as long as the total combination does not exceed 12 Inserts.

With this exceptionally versatile machine, the operator does not need to physically touch the Insert during the entire installation process. SPIROL’s Model HA Automatic Heat Insert Driver has been designed to eliminate the dependency on the operator to control the factors of time, temperature and pressure to ensure nearly perfect flow of the plastic for optimal retention and performance. The Model HA Automatic Heat Insert Driver installs Threaded Inserts ranging in size from M2 – M8 metric threads and #2 – 3/8 unified threads. The economic adjustment to small batch sizes, we meet with our turned parts for the direct assembly in plastics and die-cast products. Any thread forms such as, thread-tapping (DIN7500), thread cutting (DIN 7513-7516) or KTG for direct screw in plastics are realized cost-effectively. Advantage is the elimination of high tooling costs, since no counter-thread in the workpiece (eg threaded inserts, nuts, etc.) is required because the direct assembly takes place directly into the workpiece. Only a given tube is required in order to screw it directly. Our turned parts replace previously cold formed parts used (so-called multi-station presses) which require high output volumes in order to achieve a reasonable price parts.

The timeconsuming assembly of subcomponents is no longer necessary. Prevention of dents Thanks to the high friction of the secutex material, the coil cannot slip and, in some cases, the contact pressure can be significantly reduced. The typical impressions in the initial winding layers are prevented and material wastage is significantly reduced. The secutex material is extremely wearresistant and, unlike standard rubber, is also oilresistant. The insertion tip helps thread the coils.
