LT Ultra is your partner for the production of optical surface qualities in injection mold inserts. For example, we can manufacture inserts for the injection molding of spectacle lenses with several focal lengths as well as mold inserts for microlenses or components for vehicle lighting systems. In addition to simple geometries such as spheres or aspheres, we mainly manufacture non-rotationally symmetrical components and freeform surfaces.Mold inserts for a long service life can be made from chemically deposited nickel (NiP). Here you can work directly in the nickel. The advantage is that the very durable nickel can also be deposited on substrates that could not be brought into optical quality themselves or only with great effort. On request, LT Ultra offers the complete delivery of the mold insert as well as the processing of additional parts.

With the chip-removing microstructuring of metal surfaces, LT Ultra offers the right manufacturing technology for the production of embossing tools with optical surface qualities that allow economical replication in large numbers. Examples of microstructuring are the production of microfluidics or microlenses on our ultra-precise multi-axis machines. We can manufacture the structures directly in various materials such as brass, chemically deposited nickel or in selected hardened steels.For the replicating production of optical components, ultra-precise mold inserts made of steel are of particular interest due to their very long service life compared to other materials. In order to avoid the final polishing, which often leads to an undesirable change in shape or which is impossible due to a high structure density, LT Ultra offers ultrasound-assisted machining of steels with geometrically defined cutting edges made of monocrystalline diamond.

With an extensive inventory of ultra-precision machines and the corresponding measuring technology, we manufacture with accuracies down to the sub-micrometer range and with roughness up to approx. 1 nm [Ra]. To create ideal conditions in terms of rigidity and damping for multi-axis machining, the series was equipped with hydrostatic (oil) bearings. By using diamond tools, optical surface quality can be achieved on a wide range of materials like crystals, nonferrous metals and plastics, even with complex geometries. Similar to the MMC 600/900 air bearing machines, the basic setup can be equipped with various accessories. The basic setup consists of 3 linear axes and can be upgraded by additional rotary, tilt or spindle axes to 4, 5 or 6 axes. Accessories, like different spindles, vacuum chucks, palleting systems, 3D touch probes for workpiece measurement, tool changer and automated tool setting, allow an effective use of the machine.
