Thermoplastic elastomers are bonded to engineering plastics by melt adhesion to the most widely used structural plastics. Since the materials are bonded together at the production stage, no separate adhesive is needed, which makes the process faster and more cost effective than if the two parts were assembled together after each had been produced separately. There are two main processing procedures used to achieve bonding, overmoulding and co-extrusion. When overmoulding with soft components, the surface of the hard component softens and a diffusion of the molecules in the outer layer takes place. A prerequisite for this is that the two materials, i.e. the TPE Compound and the engineering plastic, must be compatible with one another, meaning that they must not reject one another’s molecules. As the molecule mobility increases, the molecules of the two materials will diffuse and this gives rise to so called melt adhesion. The molecules of the two materials form a network at the surfac

Dryflex CS is a range of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds, based on SEBS. The range has been engineered to deliver optimised compression set performance. The raw materials used to manufacture Dryflex CS compounds are compliant with major food contact regulations (food contact statements available on request). The compounds also offer excellent organoleptic performance. What is Compression Set? Compression set is the measure of permanent deformation remaining when an applied force is removed. A TPE sample is compressed to a specific deformation, for a specified time and at a specific temperature. The compression set value is the percentage of the sample that fails to recover to its original height and is an important performance indicator for applications such as seals, flexible connectors and gaskets. For a 40 shore A hardness TPE, typical compression set values are 65 to 70 percent, with the Dryflex CS range this is reduced to 40 percent (22 hours at 100 degree). Key Chara

Introduction Mediprene BM is a range of thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) optimised for medical blow moulding applications. What is blow moulding? Blow moulding is a manufacturing process that is used to produce hollow parts such as bottles, balloons and bags. The process begins with melting the TPE and forming it into a tube, called a parison. The parison is clamped into a divided mould, the tube is pinched at one end, welding it together and then air is blown into it. The air pressure inflates the TPE out to match the mould cavity. Once the TPE has cooled and hardened the mould opens and the part is ejected. Mediprene BM TPE We have designed the Mediprene BM TPE compounds to have high melt strength, giving time to close the mould around the extruded parison while allowing sufficient stretchability during inflation. They also offer good welding in the pinchoff area of the blow mould. They can easily be coloured and give a smooth surface to the finished part. Applications The TPE can

Introduction Dryflex PS are a range of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds designed for seals and pipe joints used in waste water applications. What are TPEs? TPEs are a family of polymer compounds which display elastic and rubber-like properties at their service temperature. Like thermoplastics, when heated and with the application of shear force, TPEs become free-flowing and when cooled regain their original structure and stability. Unlike the chemical cross-linking which occurs in thermoset rubbers, TPE involves purely physical cross-linking, which can be reversed via the further application of heat, this makes it possible to re-use all production waste and end of life products can be easily reprocessed. Product Assurance We support our customers by proving the performance of our products via relevant testing and working with industry standards. The Dryflex PS grades meet the requirements of EN 681-2:2000, the European Standard EN 681-2, Type WT. This testing allows our cus

We are successfully helping to convert a rapidly growing plastics waste stream into new life plastic products with our Dryflex TPE compounds based on Post Consumer Waste. The thermoplastic elastomer materials were developed to address demands in the automotive industry, which is obliged to use increasing quantities of post consumer waste and operate under the EU ELV Directive to ensure recyclability at the end of each vehicle’s life. The materials contain a high volume of post consumer waste from 33% to 80% by weight. Recyclate consists of polypropylene drawn from automotive mouldings, which are cleaned and re-ground and rubber tyre crumb from both OEM and after market tyres. Apart from the obvious benefit of recycling, the material exhibits other advantages when compared with virgin materials particularly its superior Ultra Violet, and weathering resistance and sound reduction properties. Applications Automotive interior & exterior trim Mudflaps Underbody stonechip protectors An

What is Dryflex Green? Dryflex Green is a family of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) compounds containing raw materials from renewable resources such as plant and vegetable crops. So far we have developed several series with amounts of renewable content to over 70% (ASTM D 6866) with hardnesses from 50 to 80 Shore A. Why use biobased? Plastics are predominantly a by-product of oil, a diminishing resource. We are therefore seeing increasing demands to look at how we can work with biobased, renewable materials and bring new opportunities for sustainability. Utilising raw materials that are derived from renewable vegetable crops, that are responsibly grown, can contribute to an improved LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), which measures the environmental impact of all stages a product’s life from cradle to grave. Crops for industrial use can be grown in poor soil which is unsuited to food crops, avoiding food crop displacement and improving biodiversity. The planting of these crops can also hel

Lifoflex FLAM are a range of halogen-free flame retardant thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) designed to meet the most demanding applications where resistance to ignition and burning are important features. Lifoflex FLAM compounds contain additives to give them better resistance to burning compared to general TPE grades. The range includes halogen, chlorine and antimony free grades which are low smoke and compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives, offering flame retardancy without the use of polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). Lifoflex FLAM 600 series Flame retardant TPE, halogen free, fulfils the specification of UL 94 V0 with 3mm wall thickness. Easy processing by injection moulding and extrusion. Lifoflex FLAM 700 series The Lifoflex UV FLAM 700 series fulfils the highest specifications of flame retardant materials and can be used for railroad applications. A profile tested to DIN 5510-2:2009-05 (preventive fire protection in railway vehicles), rec

We have developed a range of Mediprene thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) for plunger seals in single-use syringes. The TPE seal, which is mounted on the end of the plunger, needs to provide a leakproof seal with the syringe barrel. As ease of use for the medical practitioner and patient comfort are also key requirements, the seal helps to optimize plunger movement for accurate dosage control and ease of injection. Originating from medical raw materials with high biocompatibility status and compounded under clean conditions, Mediprene TPEs are the material of choice for medical customers who want to maximize the probability that their devices will pass relevant medical tests. The raw materials in these compounds comply with food contact norms like FDA 21CFR and Commission Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. All polymers used have passed tests according to USP class VI and the paraffinic oil has passed the USP Mineral Oil NSF H1, reg 125038 and also the European Pharmacopeia, liquid paraffin. Fo
