The AL-ROCK is a laser hardening system for surface hardening with a self-propelled caterpillar track. The laser can be brought directly to the workpiece. Time-consuming removal of the components to be hardened can often be avoided. The robot arm easily reaches the hard-to-reach places on the workpiece. All common metals can be hardened, e.g. Quenched and tempered steels, cold work steels and cast steel or gray cast iron. The material must have at least 80% pearlite. The degrees of hardness that can be achieved are identical to those of conventional hardening processes. In free 3D movements, the laser beam precisely follows even the most demanding three-dimensional workpiece contours, for example on tracks along closing edges. Pimples, scar structures. Simple points are also not a problem. Only the free access of the laser beam to the surface to be hardened is required. And the AL-ROCK can do even more - on request, the laser robot can also be used for laser welding.

Beside the non-dressable CBN grinding tools, dressable grinding tools of leading manufacturers can be used on our machines, too. Vitrified bond aluminium oxide tools are dominant. Sintered aluminium oxide is preferred as the grinding tool for grinding of steel due to its resilience and grinding capability. Gray cast-iron can also be processed with normal aluminium oxide. The profiling of the grinding tools takes place via a machine-integrated CNC dressing unit. A diamond-plated, rotating dressing tool profiles the wheel in accordance with the respective gear parameters. The grinding tool is conditioned specifically for rough or finish grinding by selecting respective technological dressing parameters. Form consistency and cutting capacity of the grinding wheel is assured by repeated dressings, dependent on pre-defined stock removal rates. The most common form of milling is face milling; an extremely wide range of tools can be used for this process, ranging from a HSS milling cutter through to high speed milling cutters with cutting inserts in many different shapes and geometries. Several points must be watched in high speed milling and therefore a progressive cut should be preferred. The entry radius is crucial and this should therefore be programmed on entry and exit. It is particularly important that the feed rate should also be reduced when entering the work-piece until the milling cutter is fully engaged. Tool selection FMA 01: a soft cutting milling tool with a large positive cutting geometry in the 50- 315 mm diameter range. Wiper inserts also provide the best surface quality.
