Initiator cables, also referred to as sensor/actuator cables, connect control units and different sensors, or, in the case of reversal of the measurement principle, actuators. Frequently used abbreviations include ini or ini cable (plural: inis). Sensor or measurement transducers transform physical quantities such as rotation, speed, distance or length into analogue electric impulses. In the case of an actuator, the measured electric current (symbol: I, unit: ampere; A) or voltage (symbol: U, unit: volt; V) is transformed into temperature, pressure or torque. The connection cable consists of at least three cores with a small cross-section of between 0.14mm² and 0.34mm². In the simplest case, two cores are required for supplying the voltage, while the last core transmits an I/O signal. For sensitive applications, there are shielded versions in addition to the traditional ini cables to avoid EMC disruptions (electromagnetic compatibility).

Fast and accurate measurements of the smallest resistance values are possible with the milliohmmeter RESISTOMAT® model 2316. Due to the rugged aluminium injection moulding desktop housing with membrane keypad it is suitable for use in laboratory and industrial environment likewise. Wires and coils can be measured with temperature compensation. The temperature of the sample is measured with a Pt100 or pyrometer and the resistance is then corrected to the equivalent at e.g. 20 °C (adjustable) in the instrument. The sensor complies with the standards of DIN EN 50155 for railway vehicles. It is espacially intended to be used in the on-board network of rail vehicles. Its extrem rugged housing enables applications in harsh conditions in the outskirt area of the vehicle, directly at the bogie. The sensor impresses by its high ruggedness against impact, dust as well as moisture and guarantees high reliability. The device detects accelerations in a measuring range of ± 4g and operates with 110 Volt supply voltage.
