In recent years, a groundswell of negative publicity and consumer backlash has emerged against disposable plastic products, particularly bottles. Images of bottles overflowing landfills and adversely impacting ecosystems have soured consumers and drawn the ire of environmental organizations and activists worldwide. As a result, many are calling for increased government and industry intervention to address the growing problem. According to the Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group, plastic drink bottles are the third most common type of waste item found on shorelines – behind cigarette butts and food wrappers. As the plastics and beverage industries work to address the issue by investing in new recycling technologies and waste management infrastructure, there is also an opportunity to reinforce the benefits of infinitely recyclable aluminum and to promote it as the model of sustainable packaging for bottled water and other beverages.

CAN FD (CAN flexible data rate) is an expasion of the “classical” CAN bus (CAN classic) and is defined by the standard ISO 11898-1:2015. CAN FD facilitates not only sending of larger data volumes (payload): the limit of 8 bytes with CAN classic has been increased to 64 bytes with CAN FD. Also, it provides the possibility of a higher bit rate within the data phase, even going beyond the previous limit of 1 MBit/s.

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a network concept that has been developed for the automotive industry originally. Today, CAN is especially used in networking industrial control systems, sensors and actuators based on the field bus technology. In our CAN-bus training you will learn about the physical properties of a CAN-bus system as well as protocol structure. The participants will look into the theory of hardware and software design and improve their knowledge in practical units. This CAN-bus training course forms the basis for our advanced-level workshops on CANopen and J1939. Target group CAN-bus training The target group of the CAN-bus workshop is development engineers who are looking for a quick start into the ISO standard 11898-1:2015 (Road vehicles – Controller Area Network). Also, we address decision makers and product managers to enable them to assess the suitability of the CAN-bus standard for their applications.

The cable transmitter module µCAN.1.ai-TRS is designed to acquire one analogue measurement signal. The TRS module is integrated directly in the measurement line where the analogue signals are digitized and transmitted to the processing unit via CAN interface.

The µCAN.8.dio-SNAP is a freely configurable digital I/O module featuring 8 channels. Module ID and bit rate can be set via DIP switch or via CAN bus (LSS, CiA 305). The module supports the protocols CANopen CANopenFD and J1939.

The 8 terminals of the µCAN.8.dio-BOX may individually be set to act as digital inputs or digital outputs. The module preprocesses and filters the digital signals. Its CAN interface supports the protocols CANopen, CANopen FD and J1939.

The µCAN.4.sg-BOX is a decentralized measurement data acquisition module for the acquisition of four strain gauges or resistance bridges. The resistance bridge data is acquired at a total sampling rate of 400 Hz.

The decentralized module µCAN.4.ao-BOX features four analogue outputs which optionally provide a voltage signal (+/- 10 V) or a current signal (0…20 mA). The CAN interface supports the protocols protocols CANopen and J1939.

The µCAN.1.ti-BOX is the single channel solution for the acquisition of temperature signals. Resistance sensors as well as thermocouples may be connected to the module. The CAN interface supports the protocol CANopen.
