For use in harsh industrial environments, special sensors in particularly robust housings must be used. A water- and oil-tight cable connection is also often required, such as that offered by the M608A11 model. To protect against electromagnetic interference, a housing-insulated sensor construction and special amplifier electronics are used. Interference on the cable is also minimised by using twisted pair cables with additional shielding.
