One of the most prominent requirements in the automotive industry is exceptional availability together with precision as well as the conformity with strict specifications regarding cleanliness. For our customers in the automotive and housing industry, we produce deep-drawn stainless steel pots with an integrated axle as a monobloc component. These are used in water pumps for electric vehicles. Our customer from the automotive industry needs pots with an integrated axle that holds a rotor. Up to now, the pot and axle have been joined in a centred manner by means of welding. The customer's wish was to produce a one-piece component to avoid welding. Deep drawing is the ideal technology for this. The size of the component required larger presses than were previously available. Therefore, we first developed tools as prototypes for larger presses on behalf of the customer. After practical tests at the customer's premises as well as at the end customer's, our client decided on a tool that was ideally suited for the production of the component in series.

The requirements for the dismantling parts are just as high as for the actual body. The surfaceCONTROL 2500 is used for the defect detection of attachments and interior parts. This enables the objective and reproducible identification and classification of defects. The surfaceCONTROL 2500 is used, for example, to inspect small parts such as fuel filler flaps, to detect defects on cockpit elements or for inspection in the press shop.

The requirements for the attachments are just as high as for the actual car body. The reflectCONTROL surface inspection system, familiar from car body inspection, has been adapted to the fast and high-resolution surface inspection of largely flat attachments. It recognizes and classifies the defects in an objective and repeatable way. Thanks to the large measuring field, trays can be measured in many cases in just a single capture.

The surfaceCONTROL 2500 measuring system is used for defect detection on diffusely reflecting surfaces. In combination with robots, the surfaceCONTROL 2500 is used for fully automatic defect detection on body shells. This system works according to the method of fringe light projection. By means of a learning process, local form defects such as bumps, dents, etc. are reliably detected, while permissible deviations are tolerated. The surfaceCONTROL systems consist of sensor, robot, computer and software and interface package. Different versions of the system are available, which are configured according to customer-specific requirements. The number of reflectCONTROL sensors and robots required can be flexibly adapted to the required throughput.

reflectCONTROL Automotive enables the fully automatic inspection of painted car bodies. The robotic systems enable the detection, three-dimensional measurement and classification of typical paint defects such as inclusions, craters, runners, etc. This enables robot-based automatic processing of the defects, up-stream analysis to identify the sources of defects, and laser-based marking for possible manual processing of the defects.
