STEEC has been a pioneering company in cutting and laser micro-cutting in France. Since the first YAG industrial laser in France was installed in the premises of the company in 1983. 30 years ago STEEC developed unique know-how and competence in this field which it offers its customers as part of its subcontracting service. The company now has 5 laser cutting machines which enable it to meet a wide range of requirements. These machines, in which the company continually investing, have been custom designed according to STEEC specification in order to comply with the quality and precision standards demanded by the customers. Using its highly efficient innovating machines STEEC carries out very high precision cutting on flat and tubular parts with thickness ranging from 3mm to 2µm !

Laser ablation technology helps the engineer to develop circuit carriers which cannot be manufactured with chemical etching technology. This kind of product results from combining the technologies of precision-grinding of ceramics and laser ablation of metallised thin-film layers. We name this concept "three-dimensional interconnection circuit or CI3D". Principle The laser structuring consist to etch directly a metallization layer deposited on a ceramic carrier with a laser beam without using a mask. This is called laser micromachining or laser ablation - because metal is ablated. Laser ablation allows patterns to be etched directly on the ceramics substrate, very rapidly and beam displacements to be programmed limitless. Equipment Solid-state lasers are mostly used for micromachining applications because they feature precision, speed and selective etching. We currently use a Nd :YAG laser with 60 W output. It enables us to etch thin-film metallised layers with thickness of up...

Ceramic components offer significant advantages over metal and plastic parts . They have a dimensional stability at high temperatures. They are good electrical insulators. They do not outgas in vacuum environment. Ceramics are inert materials and resistant to many gases and chemicals. They show high thermal insulating properties or high thermal dissipation. Applications and products Advanced ceramics are used in solid-state lasers (Nd-Yag..), gas lasers, fibre lasers, diode lasers, high-power laser diodes and IPL systems. Typical customized products from Microcertec are high-voltage insulators ionisation electrode plates, insulators for electrical feedthroughs, corona insulators, electrical insulators resistant to gas corrosion and plasma discharges, reflectors, heat sinks, 3D metallized ceramics, structural parts than can be brazed.
