Your espresso may be watery for various reasons. One possible reason is that your grind may be too fine. If the grind is too fine, under-extraction happens because water has difficulty flowing through the coffee grounds to extract all the flavors. Another possible reason for a weak espresso is a machine’s uneven water distribution over coffee grounds. Uneven water distribution will cause over-extraction on some parts of the grounds and under-extraction on others resulting in a watery-tasting espresso. Tamping the coffee grounds too much could also result in watery espresso. If the grounds are tamped too firmly, water would have difficulty penetrating them to extract all the flavors, hence the watery taste. You can troubleshoot these variables to figure out what is making you pull thin espresso shots.

Use freshly roasted and ground coffee beans: Freshly roasted coffee beans will have a richer and more complex flavor than older beans. Additionally, using freshly ground coffee will ensure that the coffee is as fresh as possible. Preheat the coffee dripper and the cup: Preheating the coffee dripper and the cup will ensure that the coffee stays hot and doesn't lose heat as it's being brewed. Use a gooseneck kettle for precision pouring: A gooseneck kettle allows for more precise pouring, which can help you control the flow rate and ensure that the coffee is evenly extracted.

Cold brew coffee is a type of coffee that is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold or room temperature water for an extended period of time, typically 12 to 24 hours. This slow brewing process allows the coffee to extract the flavors, oils, and caffeine from the beans, resulting in a rich, smooth, and low-acidic coffee concentrate. After the coffee has been steeped, it is usually filtered to remove the grounds, and the resulting concentrate can be diluted with water, milk, or other liquids to create a refreshing and flavorful iced coffee beverage. Some people also prefer to drink cold brew coffee straight or use it as a base for other coffee drinks. Cold brew coffee is often considered a smoother and less bitter alternative to traditional hot brewed coffee, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many coffee shops and cafes offering cold brew options on their menus.
