Las plantas hortícolas son aquellas que se cultivan con el propósito de ser utilizadas como alimentos. Estas plantas son una parte fundamental de la horticultura, que es la ciencia y arte de cultivar frutas, verduras, hierbas y otros productos vegetales. Ejemplos de plantas hortícolas incluyen tomates, lechugas, zanahorias, patatas, cebollas, fresas, pimientos, brócoli, espinacas, entre muchas otras. La mayoría de las plantas hortícolas pasan por un ciclo de vida que incluye germinación, crecimiento, floración, polinización y producción de frutos. Existen numerosas variedades y cultivares de cada planta hortícola, desarrolladas para adaptarse a diferentes climas, suelos y preferencias de los cultivadores.
