Our uncoated Precision Ball Lenses can be achieve a very high level of yield of magnification & are widely used for focusing & coupling light into and out of Microscopes. We can offer these in Sapphire, made from Al2O3, and BK7 or equivalent material. Sapphire allows for superior optical transmission qualities The key feature of ball lenses is their short back focal length allowing for precision coupling where size or space is a limiting factor in the system & therefore ideal in the use of Microscopes or microscopic attachments onto devices such as mobile phones. Ball Lenses are manufactured from a single substrate of glad and therefore, depending on the geometry of the input source, can focus or collimate light. Half Ball Lenses can also be used as an interchange with a full ball lens for more compact designs. Read the PDF for more information....

Knight Optical provide a wide range of optical components present in a spectrometers, specifically mirrors and prisms with a UV Aluminium coating to enable the detection of UV wavelengths from 180nm. UV wavelengths can be hard to detect without the use of this coating and can make results inaccurate. Knight Optical UV Aluminium coating allows wavelengths between 180-650nm to reflection at an average of of 85% which is not achieved with Enhanced Aluminium which cuts on at 400nm and primarily for the visible region and above. The coating can be applied to Prisms and Mirrors, either from stock or custom. It is also worth noting that the coating has a protective layer which improves resistance to scratching and improves durability making it easier to clean. Read PDF for more details

As UVC sterilisation becomes more prevalent, Knight Optical can offer UV domes to house LEDs and LED arrays, as well as other light sources. We stock ready-to-order 50mm and 100mm UV fused silica domes with high transmission down to 185nm, meaning it encompasses the traditionally used UVC light sources – KCl excimer lamps (222nm), mercury lamps (254nm) and LEDs (265nm, 273nm and 280nm). Knight Optical can also provide custom domes, including with a flange for easier mounting, manufactured from UV fused silica. Also available are optical coatings to enhance the performance of the dome. Quality Assurance All optical components are tested in our state-of-the-art metrology laboratory to ensure they meet every specification, and then 100% visually inspected by our highly trained quality technicians. Knight Optical prides itself on the quality of our optical components, and you can be confident that our products will fit seamlessly into your UVC system.

Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Polarisers that can be used in the visible range for use with cameras/photography. Linear Polarisation can be split into P-Polarised (Light where the electric field is Parallel to the plane of incidence) and S-Polarised (Light where the electric field is Perpendicular to the plane of incidence) light, where a polariser can be used to eliminate one plane of polarisation. This is done to decrease ‘glare’ (reflections on the surface) when an image is being taken, and increase the contrast. This is used often with cameras to obtain ‘better’ image quality at the expense of an image that appears slightly darker. Knight Optical also keep stock a UV and NIR range of sheet polarisers, for use with cameras outside of the typical visible range. These Linear Polarisers are available with single-sheet transmissions in the range of 22-44% and also in a range of sizes. Read PDF for more information

Knight Optical can offer Lithium Fluoride Lenses for use within UV Applications. We supply a range of lithium fluoride lenses for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers using UV optics such as UV lasers. UV lasers are beneficial in some applications as opposed to longer wavelengths such as infrared or visible light as they do not heat the areas around the target. This allows the laser the cut materials by breaking atomic bonds, rather than melting the material. Due to the large band gap for Lithium fluoride, it’s crystals are more transmittive to short wavelength UV radiation than any other material and are ideal for use in X-Ray monochromators, as for use in VUV, UV, Vis and IR spectrums. Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Lenses for Solid State Laser applications. UV FS is a prime choice for lenses in use with Solid State Lasers due to its consistently high transmission in the UV/VIS/NIR regions. This means that it can be used with a range of different laser types, such as Titanium-doped sapphire (tuneable to 660-1080nm) or Alexandrite (tuneable to 700-820nm) with very little change in performance. UV FS is comparable to N-BK7 or other similar optical glasses in its performance, having a very similar average transmission over the VIS range up to approximately 2000nm and a slightly lower refractive index. The Abbe constants of UV FS are also very similar to that of N-BK7, although slightly higher. Read PDF for full specification

Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Lenses for Colour Measurement Applications. Similarly to N-BK7, UV Fused Silica has a fairly consistent transmission across UV/VIS/NIR, meaning that that transmission in each region is almost equal. This in turn means that any image or measurement taken is not skewed towards one colour, and a more accurate measurement can be taken. This can be used in conjunction with an IR Cut Filter in cameras to remove a lot of the NIR noise giving a clearer image with better colour clarity/contrast. UV FS is comparable to N-BK7 or other similar optical glasses in its performance, having a very similar average transmission over the VIS range up to approximately 2000nm and a slightly lower refractive index. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Sapphire Windows, for use within Infrared Systems. Knight Optical can offer Sapphire (Al2O3) Optics for Infra-red systems over the waveband of 0.2 to 5µm. We offer Sapphire optics for UV, Visible, NIR (0.9 to 1.5µm) and Mid-Waveband Infra-Red (MWIR, 3 to 5µm) Imaging Systems. Sapphire has hardness of about HK2000, which makes it a better choice for windows and outer elements of lens systems. Sapphire has good transmission in the MWIR band, and can be used with optical glass in the NIR, and with Silicon or Germanium in the MWIR, to form well corrected doublets and lens systems. These systems include, for example, Forward Looking Infra-Red (FLIR) systems, and thermography. Al2 O3 has a refractive index of about 1.9288no 1.9174ne at 200nm through to 1.623no 1.615ne in the IR (5µm). This pairing will allow for the design and manufacture of a colour corrected lens that can be used in broad spectrum thermal imaging systems.

Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Windows for Vacuum Applications. UV Fused Silica is a relatively hard optical glass with a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means that it is a good choice for us in Vacuum applications, as any difference in temperature will not affect the optical performance. In addition to the above, UV FS has high transmission from UV to NIR meaning that there is little loss of image when it is used for a Vacuum Window/viewport and therefore the quality of the optical system is not compromised. All our UV Fused Silica Lenses are fully inspected on their quality in our ISO 9001 certified, state-of-the-art Metrology laboratory, using our Trioptics Optispheric, and Starrett AV300 and Zygo Verifire XPZ. This allows us to work to the highest QA standards and meet the tolerance specifications on these precision components Read PDF for more info
