AMETEK Specialty Metal Products is committed to meeting the demands of Metal Additive Manufacturing (AM) for mass-production of industrial components. We engineer economic AM powder of mainstream stainless steel, nickel, and cobalt alloys for non-rotor-grade components made by Laser Powder Bed, Binder Jet, and Cold Spray processes. Alloys As a leader in metal powder production for additive manufacturing, we offer several different alloys and size distributions specifically tailored for different additive manufacturing processes and machines. The most common additive manufacturing powder materials produced include: 316L (including A240 grade) 304L 17-4PH® We also offer specialty austenitic and ferritic stainless steels, as well as a selection of nickel and cobalt alloy powders for 3D printing.

Our precision metal strip products are custom-made in biocompatible alloys for implantable medical devices that improve quality of life for patients around the world. We work in partnership with Hamilton Precision Metals to manufacture innovative metal materials that enable smaller, lighter and higher performing medical implants. Superior Titanium Strip for Implantable Medical Devices We have developed proprietary practices for the successful reduction of Titanium Grade 5 (6Al-4V) and Titanium Grade 23 Alloys (6Al-4V ELI) to thicknesses of 0.0039” (0.10mm). Our process results in a finish much superior to alternative methods of etching or grinding strips to gauge. This surface finish and gauge control translates to improvements in finished product quality as well as process controls during drawing, stamping, etching or laser cutting. These alloys are offered in the fully annealed or the as-rolled tempers.

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products has applied the high purity wrought powder compaction process to Ductile Cobalt Alloys in order to produce multiple ductile cobalt strip products generally used by weld wire manufacturers as sheathing for flux cored and metal cored hardfacing materials. These alloys range from 80 to 95% cobalt with Iron or Iron-Nickel additions to improve ductility for drawing operations.

AMETEK Specialty Metal Products uses a wrought powder metallurgical process to ensure the highest purity finished products. Our main strengths lie in the processing of Nickel, Iron and Cobalt containing alloys amongst other available materials. The processing of these materials begins with the consolidation of powder through a roll compaction process and followed by a controlled atmosphere sintering. Further reduction of the material is performed solely under cold working temperatures to reduce the introduction of non-metallics and annealing is performed under controlled atmospheres. AMETEK Strip Products are produced in ranges between .002” (0.05mm) and .080” (2.03mm) thicknesses in a full range of tempers and widths to 22” (558.8mm) while maintaining special capabilities to produce materials outside of these ranges for special applications.
