Binoculars and Periscopes invert an image to make an object appear closer. There are two types of prisms that can be used for binoculars: Porro and Roof Prisms. Porro prisms are used in a pair to create an optical path. The image would pass through the first prism and which then inverts the image, the second prism then flips the image, so it is making the distant object appear closer. Roof prisms work in a similar fashion however are one prism and this design performs in the same way. Used particularly for smaller compact spaces as there are aligned in one piece to its objective lenses. Knight Optical’s Porro and Roof Prisms are available from stock, manufactured from high quality BK-7 or equivalent. They are also available to custom specifications with our capabilities for the two types: •General Dimensions: 5mm to 300mm+ •Angular tolerance: <3arcseconds •Surface form: <1/10th wave @ 633nm •Surface quality: 10:5 •Coating options: AR or Mirror Read PDF for Info

We supply a range of Wedge Prisms for a range of applications. All individually QA checked, and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within Forestry. Wedge Prisms are used in a similar manner to an angle gauge, when plotting the basal area of a group of trees. Wedge prisms are also used in beam steering. All our Wedge Prism are fully inspected on their quality in our ISO 9001 certified, state-of-the-art Metrology laboratory, using our Starrett AV300 Video Imaging System and our Trioptics PrismMaster. This allows us to work to the highest QA standards and meet the tolerance specifications on these precision components. Read PDF for more...

These dispersing equilateral dispersing prisms have a very simple triangular cross section. Equilateral dispersion prisms are commonly used for wavelength separations, i.e. refracting white light into a rainbow pattern effect. Depending on the material used equilateral dispersion prisms can be used over a wide range of wavelengths. We offer UV Fused silica prisms for use in the ultra-violet wavelength from 170nm and other high index materials which are used for visible applications. Antireflective coatings are applied to most of our high index grade of equilateral dispersion prisms as high index material is sceptical to staining and corrosion which anti-reflective coatings eliminate. Antireflective coatings also help to improve output of the light as they prevent light loss due to surface reflection. The exit beam is in general at an angle to the input beam, this angle depending on the prism material, the wavelength and the incidence angle READ PDF FOR MORE INFO

Knight Optical supply stock and custom deviation penta prisms that cover the visual and NIR range. Deviation prisms are an optical component that will redirect a light beam into another known angle relative to the incoming beam. The penta-prism is a deviation prism which is used in cameras with a movable mirror that bends the beam vertical onto the focus graticule. The penta-prism provides a 90° deviation of the beam from the focus plane and, via an eyepiece, the user can aim the camera along the same axis as the beam that is focused onto the detector, electronic or wet film. Deviations through other angles can be accomplished using, for example, abbe constant deviation, littrow, and wadsworth prisms. Read PDF for more info

Knight Optical can offer Rhomboid Prisms for use within Imaging Applications. We supply a range of Rhomboid Prisms for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within Imaging Applications. Rhomboid Prisms are designed to displace a beam laterally while maintaining its direction. Rhomboid prisms rely on total internal reflection and so do not often need to be coated For more information read the PDF…

Knight Optical can offer Pellin-Broca Prisms for use within Atomic Spectroscopy. We supply a range of Pellin-Broca Prisms for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within Atomic Spectroscopy. Pellin-Broca Prisms are designed with a given material, angle and wavelength in mind to perfectly deviate a beam of the given wavelength by 90 degrees. These are often used to separate beams of differing colours and as such are ideal for use in optical atomic spectroscopy or to separate outputs of a multi-line laser. For more information read PDF…
