Our precision grade N-BK7 windows are often used to seal optical enclosures & act as a protective window for the optical and electrical component behind the window, particularly within CCTV and ANPR systems where there is a risk of damage. N-BK7 provides excellent transmission in the visible and near infrared spectrum which can be enhanced still with our Anti Reflective coatings. Our stock range of ¼ wave N-BK7 or equivalent windows are supplied either uncoated or with the option of an Anti-Reflective coating on both faces with extended BBAR for visible and NIR applications within the 450-900nm wavelength range. We can also offer custom solutions for your application, whether it is a custom size or a coating to optimise a different wavelength range, beamsplitter coated or mirror coated to meet your bespoke requirements. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Precision Grade Windows, for use with Thermal Imagining Cameras. Infrared radiation is characterised by the wavelengths ranging from 750nm to 1000µm. Although typically used for the visible range, N-BK7 does have transmission within the near infrared spectrum also. Where IR materials such as Germanium are limited to a small band in the IR spectrum, N-BK7 works well throughout the entire visible and into the NIR, making it a perfect material for a protective window for using within a Thermal Imaging Camera. A low cost material, it is perfect substrate for your protective window. We can supply both stock and custom N-BK7 windows to protect your thermal imaging application. The high optical quality and uniform transmission of N-BK7 as well as low absorption in the entire visible wavelength range is a key feature for this application. For more information read PDF

Knight Optical can offer you Stock and Custom Colour Glass Filters, for use within Inline Cameras in a range of materials of brands such as Schott, Kopp and CDGM. Depending on the achievable wavelength and desired affect you need for the Inline Camera we can find a suitable material for your application. Colour Glass Filters are good for selecting a particular wavelength to be absorbed so that the high out of band blocking in achieved. With regards to the use in Inline Cameras, Colour Glass Short pass Filters are more desirable as they cut out the IR wavelengths mean the imaging is not saturated with the IR giving the image better clarity. Colour Glass Filters are polished sheets of special glass that have been cast with a dye. Colour Glass Filters generally are relatively cheap and very stable. The disadvantage with them is that they are only available in a relatively small number of variants, and so can be restrictive in shortwave selection.  For More Info see PDF...

Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Polarisers that can be used in the visible range for use with cameras/photography. Linear Polarisation can be split into P-Polarised (Light where the electric field is Parallel to the plane of incidence) and S-Polarised (Light where the electric field is Perpendicular to the plane of incidence) light, where a polariser can be used to eliminate one plane of polarisation. This is done to decrease ‘glare’ (reflections on the surface) when an image is being taken, and increase the contrast. This is used often with cameras to obtain ‘better’ image quality at the expense of an image that appears slightly darker. Knight Optical also keep stock a UV and NIR range of sheet polarisers, for use with cameras outside of the typical visible range. These Linear Polarisers are available with single-sheet transmissions in the range of 22-44% and also in a range of sizes. Read PDF for more information

CMOS sensors are used within commercial grade Digital SLR cameras as a replacement for the more expensive CCD. These CMOS sensors are extremely sensitive to IR light, which can lead to discolouration. IR cut filters are used to block the IR light, meaning that photographs are taken with life-like colours. Colour Glass Filters can be used in variations of Bandpass, Long pass and Short pass, depending on which wavelengths of light need to be blocked resulting in different key areas being more easily distinguished. Knight Optical offers Colour Glass and IR cut filters for such an application, with a wide range of band widths and cut on/off wavelengths. As above these are available as Bandpass, Long pass or Short pass filters and we can also offer customised filters with coatings specific to the wavelength of your choice. We hold a massive inventory of IR cut, Bandpass, Long Pass and Short Pass filters: Read PDF for more info….

We can supply you with a custom made Diamond turned aspheric lenses for use within Thermal Imaging Cameras. Thermal Imaging Cameras work similarly to traditional visible camera systems; while traditional cameras form images using visible light; thermal cameras form images using infrared radiation; operating in wavelengths as long as 14µm. Spherical aberration occurs in common singlet lenses, which results in an image that appears distorted, aspheric lenses correct spherical aberration. An aspheric lens surface is designed non-spherical, which allows a single component lens to collimate or focus highly divergent rays, potentially replacing a multi-lens system. This in turn provides the camera system with a better image quality. Knight Optical offers diamond turned aspherics from a range of infrared materials including Germanium (Ge), Calcium Fluoride (CaF₂), Zinc Sulphide (ZnS), Zinc Selenide (ZnSe), Aluminium (Al) and chalcogenide glasses like AMTIR (Ge33As12Se55 ) PDF FOR INFO

Knight Optical supply stock and custom deviation penta prisms that cover the visual and NIR range. Deviation prisms are an optical component that will redirect a light beam into another known angle relative to the incoming beam. The penta-prism is a deviation prism which is used in cameras with a movable mirror that bends the beam vertical onto the focus graticule. The penta-prism provides a 90° deviation of the beam from the focus plane and, via an eyepiece, the user can aim the camera along the same axis as the beam that is focused onto the detector, electronic or wet film. Deviations through other angles can be accomplished using, for example, abbe constant deviation, littrow, and wadsworth prisms. Read PDF for more info

Knight Optical can offer you the solution for your CCTV Cameras! CCTV Systems use Germanium Windows for their properties which make them ideal for thermal imaging and night vision use. Germanium Material offers excellent transmission across the IR wavelength range. Making it ideal for use within Thermal Imaging Cameras; which are used extensively in CCTV applications. Germanium typically operates in the 2µm to 14µm spectral range; that covers the LWIR (8-12μm) and MWIR (3-5μm) thermal imaging wavelength range. Our Germanium windows are available from stock, custom size and shape with Anti-Reflection coatings on one or both sides, and/or with Hard Carbon Diamond coatings. Custom coatings for Germanium windows available on you request and to your specific requirement with diameters up to 300mm diameters. Read PDF for Info

Automatic Number Place Recognition Cameras otherwise known as ANPRs; are camera devices designed to work at certain wavelengths (dependent on Country) to read a license plate’s number of a vehicle to then track it through a database to identify any criminal offences links to that car, such as uninsured; stolen; major and organised crime; and even terrorism. They are typically installed on motorways; busy roads around cities and towns; and also on police cars as well as specialised ANPR police vans. Knight Optical offers Colour Glass Filters for such an application, be it either long pass or bandpass filters. The wavelengths typically used by ANPR camera companies are: 695nm; 740nm; 810nm; 850nm; 910nm and 940nm. We offer these filters as either long pass or band pass filters. We can also offer these as customised filters with specific band blocking coatings to optimise your wavelength of choice. For more details see PDF

Optical Sorting Systems are a widely utilized technology used within the food industry; most particularly used in processing harvested foods such as fruits and vegetables, most notably potatoes, and nuts. Optical sorting was designed to help improve product quality, maximize throughput and increase yields. Within an optical sorting system there are four main components, the feed system, the optical system, the image processing software and last the separation system. The optical system utilizes lights and sensors housed above and below the flow of the products being inspected. It works by using a combination of light and sensors to illuminate objects; and to do this Beam-Splitters are one of the optical components used. Within the camera used in the system a Beam-Splitter cube is used to divide the light source coming from a single lens, into different channels; and each channel is filtered to a specific spectral region Read PDF for more data
