Within the LED Lighting Industry, Colour Glass Filters can used as downlights within a stage production by filtering the different visible wavelengths and filter out unwanted light from a white light source to provide desired coloured light that is perceived by an audience to be a highly saturated or intense colour. Knight Optical can offer Custom Homogenizing Rods for use within Electrical Instruments. Electrical instruments use backlight displays to help illuminate and evenly distribute the light source. They can be used as mixers, which is when you want to mix colours from multi-colour LEDs together. The light source will enter a light pipe at a variety of incident angles, which is designed to utilise its total internal reflection to help transmit light from the entrance of the light pipe to the exit. The material’s refractive index is the only factor which affects the light pipe’s critical angle; this defines the angle of acceptance at which the total internal reflection will occur. Need to measure the fluorescent properties of a component with your Spectrometer but you feel like something’s missing? Maybe it’s Knight Optical range of Stock Dichroic Filters, ideal for use within Fluorescence Microscopy and Spectroscopy. For Fluorescence Microscopy and Spectroscopy, dichroic filters are used as beam splitters within the microscope system. They are used as an edge filter at a tilted angle of incidence (typically 45°) to direct the illumination of an excitation frequency towards the sample of interest, and then at an analyser to reject the same excitation frequency but passes a particular emission frequency. Dichroic filters offer superior contrast between transmitted and reflected wavelengths; having negligible absorption. Having a dielectric coating they are perfect for high power applications and they do not show the strong fluorescence of certain glass filters. For more information read the PDF

Automatic Number Place Recognition Cameras otherwise known as ANPRs; are camera devices designed to work at certain wavelengths (dependent on Country) to read a license plate’s number of a vehicle to then track it through a database to identify any criminal offences links to that car, such as uninsured; stolen; major and organised crime; and even terrorism. They are typically installed on motorways; busy roads around cities and towns; and also on police cars as well as specialised ANPR police vans. Knight Optical offers Colour Glass Filters for such an application, be it either long pass or bandpass filters. The wavelengths typically used by ANPR camera companies are: 695nm; 740nm; 810nm; 850nm; 910nm and 940nm. We offer these filters as either long pass or band pass filters. Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Lenses for Colour Measurement Applications. Similarly to N-BK7, UV Fused Silica has a fairly consistent transmission across UV/VIS/NIR, meaning that that transmission in each region is almost equal. This in turn means that any image or measurement taken is not skewed towards one colour, and a more accurate measurement can be taken. This can be used in conjunction with an IR Cut Filter in cameras to remove a lot of the NIR noise giving a clearer image with better colour clarity/contrast. UV FS is comparable to N-BK7 or other similar optical glasses in its performance, having a very similar average transmission over the VIS range up to approximately 2000nm and a slightly lower refractive index. CMOS sensors are used within commercial grade Digital SLR cameras as a replacement for the more expensive CCD. These CMOS sensors are extremely sensitive to IR light, which can lead to discolouration. IR cut filters are used to block the IR light, meaning that photographs are taken with life-like colours. Colour Glass Filters can be used in variations of Bandpass, Long pass and Short pass, depending on which wavelengths of light need to be blocked resulting in different key areas being more easily distinguished. Intense Pulsed Light filters are essential to IPL applicators as they are used to filter out the UV wavelength range; and transmit between 400-1200nm for use within cosmetic lasers that are designed to remove unwanted hair, vascular treatment and even acne treatment. These IPL Filters are often stacked between sapphire windows within the IPL applicator to offer a more defined wavelength spectrum when in use. Dichroic filters consist of thin film dielectric coatings on glass, and are designed to offer high transmission over a specific wavelength while reflecting all other wavelengths, having negligible absorption.
