Knight Optical provide a wide range of optical components present in a spectrometers, specifically mirrors and prisms with a UV Aluminium coating to enable the detection of UV wavelengths from 180nm. UV wavelengths can be hard to detect without the use of this coating and can make results inaccurate. Knight Optical UV Aluminium coating allows wavelengths between 180-650nm to reflection at an average of of 85% which is not achieved with Enhanced Aluminium which cuts on at 400nm and primarily for the visible region and above. The coating can be applied to Prisms and Mirrors, either from stock or custom. Optical flats are single precision flat surfaces. They are used as reference surfaces to compare flatness of a substrate where flatness is unknown. When a high quality optical flat is placed on top of a polished substrate and used in conjunction with a monochromatic light source light bands are formed. The light bands that are present are known as interference fringes and their shape represents how flat the part being tested measures. Dependent on how many rings are formed or how straight the presented lines are is an indication of how flat the tested part is. Optical flats are used for testing gauge blocks. Optical flats are also used in interferometers and high quality flat optical mirror and window sub-straights for laser applications. This range of quartz optical flats are single-sided. Knight Optical supply stock and custom deviation penta prisms that cover the visual and NIR range. Deviation prisms are an optical component that will redirect a light beam into another known angle relative to the incoming beam. The penta-prism is a deviation prism which is used in cameras with a movable mirror that bends the beam vertical onto the focus graticule. The penta-prism provides a 90° deviation of the beam from the focus plane and, via an eyepiece, the user can aim the camera along the same axis as the beam that is focused onto the detector, electronic or wet film. The most common usage of IPL systems are typically used as photo epilators.Custom Ceramic Reflectors are a key component for this application. The xenon flash lamp which are typically used emit light in 360 degrees. However utilising ceramic reflectors which are light reflectors with a U channel means that light which would normally be wasted i.e. shining backwards is now refocused down into the filters and light guides. Sapphire (Al2O3) is one of the hardest minerals and optical materials available for use in the range from UV up to 5µm. Sapphire is birefringent and if its use is for critical optical application then the crystal might have to be cut along the zero degree plane, or C-Cut. Random cut is usually cut along a plane that is 60° off-axis as the growth in this direction is the easiest to grow. Random cut is anything that is not the C-Cut angle. Sapphire can fluoresce depending upon the concentration of other minerals within the lattice, for example Iron (Fe) or Chromium (Cr). Clear Sapphire might fluoresce orange when illuminated by UV light if impurities are in the crystal. Depending on the achievable wavelength and desired affect you need for the Inline Camera we can find a suitable material for your application. Colour Glass Filters are good for selecting a particular wavelength to be absorbed so that the high out of band blocking in achieved. With regards to the use in Inline Cameras, Colour Glass Short pass Filters are more desirable as they cut out the IR wavelengths mean the imaging is not saturated with the IR giving the image better clarity. Colour Glass Filters are polished sheets of special glass that have been cast with a dye. Colour Glass Filters generally are relatively cheap and very stable. Monochromatic lights have a low pressure sodium light source that emits monochromatic light in which rays have virtually the same wavelength. This light is a very effective way of viewing fringe patterns on the surface of optical flats (Newton rings) Knight Optical's standard type moonlight has a straight line engraved across the diffused screen enabling the operator to easily compare the straight lines of the component being tested thus identifying how flat the flatness is. Other options of monochromatic lights are available enhanced version and floor standing version. These lights are not supplied with the optical flat as standard however we stock a range of quartz and Zerodur optical flats with a range of flatness’s to meet your application. Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Windows for Vacuum Applications. UV Fused Silica is a relatively hard optical glass with a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means that it is a good choice for us in Vacuum applications, as any difference in temperature will not affect the optical performance. In addition to the above, UV FS has high transmission from UV to NIR meaning that there is little loss of image when it is used for a Vacuum Window/viewport and therefore the quality of the optical system is not compromised. Any spherical surface will introduce spherical aberrations to an optical system. Meniscus lenses are designed with the curvatures of the lens in mind to minimise these spherical aberrations. This effect is more noticeable with higher index glasses as spherical aberrations increase with the change in index.
