These barriers can be against chemicals, fire & debris. The choice of materials is different depending on the chemical to be protected against its concentration & temperature. Protection against fire is more complex. Consideration is given to items such as escape routes, the toxicity of the smoke generated by the rubber, whether the fumes given off are likely to be harmful to human beings and any (critical, expensive) electrical equipment.
