Knight Optical provide a wide range of optical components present in a spectrometers, specifically mirrors and prisms with a UV Aluminium coating to enable the detection of UV wavelengths from 180nm. UV wavelengths can be hard to detect without the use of this coating and can make results inaccurate. Knight Optical UV Aluminium coating allows wavelengths between 180-650nm to reflection at an average of of 85% which is not achieved with Enhanced Aluminium which cuts on at 400nm and primarily for the visible region and above. The coating can be applied to Prisms and Mirrors, either from stock or custom. It is also worth noting that the coating has a protective layer which improves resistance to scratching and improves durability making it easier to clean. Read PDF for more details

Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers in the medical industry for applications such as fluorescence illumination, microscopy and imaging. Homogenizing Rods are used within the application of surgical procedures; within systems designed to help identify which tissues have been exposed to the fluorescent indicator. The Light source will enter a light pipe at a variety of incident angles, which is designed to utilise its total internal reflection to channel the light from the entrance of the light pipe to the exit. The material’s refractive index is the only factor which affects the light pipes critical angle; this defines the angle of acceptance which the total internal reflection will occur at. Since the 1960s, scientists have used LIDAR (light detection and ranging) to study the atmosphere. Short pulses of laser light are used to detect particles or gases in the atmosphere, like a radar bounces radio waves off rain drops in clouds. A telescope collects and measures reflected laser radiation, like a radar dish collects the radar signal, leading to a profile of the atmosphere's structure along the path of the laser beam. Researchers can then determine the location, distribution, and nature of atmospheric particles and molecular species using an advanced LIDAR method called the Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technique. Light engines are used for applications such as fibre optic lighting displays & in diagnostic tools like western blots & polymerase chain reaction systems. These Light Engines are typically able to produce changing colour displays. Within the light engine are a range of lenses & filters. The lenses help to homogenise and collimate the light, ensuring for a crisp high-quality beam output. Achromatic Doublets are typically used in light engine systems & correct for chromatic aberrations which exist in singlet lenses. This is when different wavelengths of light refract at different rates. The doublet lens helps to correct this by facilitating the focusing of the light to the same point. Knight Optical offer a range of Stock N-BK7 Precision Grade Windows, for use with Thermal Imagining Cameras. Infrared radiation is characterised by the wavelengths ranging from 750nm to 1000µm. Although typically used for the visible range, N-BK7 does have transmission within the near infrared spectrum also. Where IR materials such as Germanium are limited to a small band in the IR spectrum, N-BK7 works well throughout the entire visible and into the NIR, making it a perfect material for a protective window for using within a Thermal Imaging Camera.
