Knight Optical offer a range of Stock Achromatic Doublet Lenses for use within Holography. Holography can be said to be a photographic recording of a light field, like an audio recording. This recording is typically 3 dimensional and does not require the use of any special equipment e.g. glasses or headset to view. These images are produced using laser light which are passed through a recording medium which “records” the depth an arrangement of the final image. Achromatic Doublets are used in holographic systems & correct for chromatic aberrations which exist in singlet lenses. This is when different wavelengths of light refract at different rates. The doublet lens helps to correct this by facilitating the focusing of the light to the same point. In holographic systems the aim is to form an image which is as close to real life as possible. UV FS is a prime choice for lenses in use with Solid State Lasers due to its consistently high transmission in the UV/VIS/NIR regions. This means that it can be used with a range of different laser types, such as Titanium-doped sapphire (tuneable to 660-1080nm) or Alexandrite (tuneable to 700-820nm) with very little change in performance. UV FS is comparable to N-BK7 or other similar optical glasses in its performance, having a very similar average transmission over the VIS range up to approximately 2000nm and a slightly lower refractive index. As the name suggests ball lenses are spherical lenses mostly made out of High Refractive Index Glass such as Sapphire, and LASFN-9 Glass. The reason ball lenses are most commonly used is for their ability to couple light in and out of fibres. The key feature of ball lenses is their short back focal length allowing for precision coupling where size or space is a limiting factor in the system. Ball lenses are typically used in pairs with one lens acting as a collimator for the second to focus the light back into the coupled fibre. Where a more compact solution is required a half-ball lens is typically more suitable. Binoculars and Periscopes invert an image to make an object appear closer. There are two types of prisms that can be used for binoculars: Porro and Roof Prisms. Porro prisms are used in a pair to create an optical path. The image would pass through the first prism and which then inverts the image, the second prism then flips the image, so it is making the distant object appear closer. Roof prisms work in a similar fashion however are one prism and this design performs in the same way. Used particularly for smaller compact spaces as there are aligned in one piece to its objective lenses.
