Softshell derives its name from its inherent fabric structure. Softshell fabrics consist of 2 , 3 or 4 layers of fabric compounded with usually Polyurethane membrane. Outer skin structure offers waterproof and windproof functionality whereas membrane allows air passage and hence breathability of human skin. Outer fabric in softshell is usually 1/1 , 2/1 Oxford woven Polyester fabric layered with PU membrane. Polyester/Elastane (Lycra or Spandex or Creora may be) fabric also commonly used as shell fabric. Softshell fabrics find use in extreme sportswear, outdoor wear, sportswear, special work clothes and performance wear. Acoustic fabric is a type of fabric specially designed to provide high sound absorption. They are often placed on acoustic panels or used as acoustic wall coverings. Acoustic sound insulation fabrics absorb sound waves, helping to reduce problems such as reflection, reverberation and resonance. In this way, sound quality and acoustic performance are improved. Acoustic sound-absorbing fabrics are usually made from specially designed polyester or wool blends. They are available in different densities and colors and can be custom dyed as needed. Acoustic fabrics are used in studios, conference halls, cinemas, theaters and similar areas.
