The RB-1 BASE mobile robot is a robotic platform designed for indoor applications. It can transport different loads or materials up to 50 kg of payload and can integrate other components or platforms, such as a robotic arm or a torso. The robot is able to detect obstacles in two different ways, by the installed RGBD sensor and by the laser sensor used for navigation and positioning. In both cases, the robot can stop or find an alternative route to avoid the obstacle and reach the next waypoint. The software includes a control system, a laser-based tracking system, a navigation system and a (basic) HMI user interface. The tracking and navigation components are standard packages that are configured to suit the application. The low-level control system software is supplied with the platform. As all Robotnik robots, the RB-1 BASE is fully customisable and based on native ROS.

The mobile platform has omnidirectional kinematics based on 4 high-power mechanum drive wheels. Each wheel integrates a brushless motor with a high precision odometer sensor. The robot base can navigate autonomously or teleoperated by means of a PTZ camera that transmits video in real time. SUMMIT-XL STEEL can be configured with a wide range of sensors. It also has internal (USB, RS232 and GPIO) and external connectivity (USB, RJ45, power supplies 5, 12 VDC and battery) to add custom components easily.
