A pressure vessel is defined as a container with a pressure differential between inside and outside. The inside pressure is usually higher than the outside, except for some isolated situations. The fluid inside the vessel may undergo a change in state as in the case of steam boilers, or may combine with other reagents as in the case of a chemical reactor. Pressure vessels often have a combination of high pressures together with high temperatures, and in some cases flammable fluids or highly radioactive materials. Pressure vessels are used in a number of industries; for example, the power generation industry for fossil and nuclear power, the petrochemical industry for storing and processing crude petroleum oil in tank farms as well as storing gasoline in service stations, and the chemical industry (in chemical reactors) to name but a few.

Alloy 400 (UNS N04400) is a solid-solution Nickel/Copper alloy that can be hardened only by cold working. It has reasonable strength and toughness over a wide temperature range and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Alloy 400 is widely used in many fields, especially marine and chemical processing. Typical applications are valves and pumps; pump and propeller shafts; marine fixtures and fasteners; electrical and electronic components; springs; chemical processing equipment; gasoline and fresh water tanks; crude petroleum stills, process vessels and piping; boiler feedwater heaters and other heat exchangers; and deaerating heaters. A distinctive feature of flexible tanks for fuel and lubricants is ease of operation. To install the tank does not require any concrete bases or special equipment. The entire capacity setting takes less than 15 minutes. Time-saving compared to metal tanks is huge. Depending on the volume of the tank for installation, 1 to 8 people are required. Flexible tanks can be used for temporary storage of transformer oil in routine maintenance of electric oil transformers.
