Binoculars and Periscopes invert an image to make an object appear closer. There are two types of prisms that can be used for binoculars: Porro and Roof Prisms. Porro prisms are used in a pair to create an optical path. The image would pass through the first prism and which then inverts the image, the second prism then flips the image, so it is making the distant object appear closer. Roof prisms work in a similar fashion however are one prism and this design performs in the same way. Used particularly for smaller compact spaces as there are aligned in one piece to its objective lenses. Knight Optical’s Porro and Roof Prisms are available from stock, manufactured from high quality BK-7 or equivalent. They are also available to custom specifications with our capabilities for the two types: •General Dimensions: 5mm to 300mm+ •Angular tolerance: <3arcseconds •Surface form: <1/10th wave @ 633nm •Surface quality: 10:5 •Coating options: AR or Mirror Read PDF for Info

Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Windows for Vacuum Applications. UV Fused Silica is a relatively hard optical glass with a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means that it is a good choice for us in Vacuum applications, as any difference in temperature will not affect the optical performance. In addition to the above, UV FS has high transmission from UV to NIR meaning that there is little loss of image when it is used for a Vacuum Window/viewport and therefore the quality of the optical system is not compromised. All our UV Fused Silica Lenses are fully inspected on their quality in our ISO 9001 certified, state-of-the-art Metrology laboratory, using our Trioptics Optispheric, and Starrett AV300 and Zygo Verifire XPZ. This allows us to work to the highest QA standards and meet the tolerance specifications on these precision components Read PDF for more info

Looking to improve you medical system? Then look no further. Knight Optical presents to you their Dichroic colour filters range. These Dichroic colour filters are typically used in scientific instrumentation or/and medical systems in particular palm vein scanners, ophthalmic diagnostics, professional eye care equipment from optical equipment or ophthalmic instruments. Our Dichroic filters: • Have a hard dielectric coating and are designed to offer high transmission over a specific wavelength while reflecting all other wavelengths. •Offer superior contrast between transmitted and reflected wavelengths. Having a dielectric coating they are perfect for high power applications and do not show the strong fluorescence of certain glass filters. •Are temperature resistant and can be used to reflect heat away from hot lighting systems in addition to their colour correcting properties, unlike traditional polyester type colour filters that melt and distort under thermal conditions.

Sapphire is an incredibly hard crystal (HK1370kg/mm2), second only to diamond. Fluoresence free sapphire windows have high mechanical strength, thermal and chemical resistance and is scratch resistant, making it very desirable for operating in harsh conditions. Sapphire windows can be made thinner than alternative crystals thanks to its structural integrity and can operate up to 2030⁰C. The material transmits between the UV and IR at 0.15-5.5µm, and has a high refractive index of 1.75.. Knight Optical supply a range of quality Sapphire optical components including Fluoresence free sapphire windows, Sapphire lenses, Sapphire prisms, and Sapphire blanks either from stock or bespoke custom made to your specification for a range of applications.  Our current range includes Random Polarization Sapphire that can be used for most applications apart from UV use. Knight Optical can offer you Stock and Custom Colour Glass Filters, for use within Inline Cameras in a range of materials of brands such as Schott, Kopp and CDGM. Depending on the achievable wavelength and desired affect you need for the Inline Camera we can find a suitable material for your application. Colour Glass Filters are good for selecting a particular wavelength to be absorbed so that the high out of band blocking in achieved. With regards to the use in Inline Cameras, Colour Glass Short pass Filters are more desirable as they cut out the IR wavelengths mean the imaging is not saturated with the IR giving the image better clarity. Colour Glass Filters are polished sheets of special glass that have been cast with a dye. Colour Glass Filters generally are relatively cheap and very stable. The disadvantage with them is that they are only available in a relatively small number of variants, and so can be restrictive in shortwave selection. Read PDF for more Information….

Knight Optical can offer Calcium Fluoride Lenses for use within the Oil and Gas Industry. We supply a range of calcium fluoride lenses for a range of applications. All individually QA checked and metrology tested for quality to ensure parts meet customer specification. Supplied in a range of sizes and shapes with custom coatings tailored to meet your individual applications. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers in the oil and gas industry for use within detectors and spectrophotometers. For spectroscopy, calcium fluoride is superior to many other materials such as N-BK7 or fused quartz due to a lack of OH absorption peaks. Due to calcium fluoride’s low absorption and reflection and high damage threshold these lenses can often be used uncoated and are ideal for use in laser applications as well as thermal imaging systems, spectroscopy and high energy neutron detection. Plastic materials may crack under the prolonged exposure to a UV light source… But not Knight Optical’s Dichroic Hot Mirrors! Knight Optical can supply you with high quality and cost effective Dichroic Hot Mirrors for use in optical systems where unwanted UV or IR light negatively impacts on the system quality. This includes UV and IR Sensitive Systems, medical illumination and display fibre optics. Prolonged exposure to UV light can cause degradation in plastic materials resulting in cracking and, eventually, mechanical failure. Exposure to IR can cause undesired thermal energy and heat into the system that can damage delicate components. Dichroic hot mirrors solve this issue by reflecting UV and IR light away from the component, meaning cost We hold a massive inventory of Bandpass, Long pass, Short pass, Band-blocking and Colour-correction filters. Metallic reflection coatings enhance reflection and are used in many optical instruments for light deflection. We coat glass, metal and plastic. The choice of coating material depends on the reflection requirements in the defined wavelength range. We use aluminium, gold, silver and chromenickel, either with or without protection coating for the VIS, UV and IR ranges.
