A prerequisite for the adhesion of an adhesive or coating to a surface is wetting. For wetting to take place, the surface energy of the substrate must be greater than that of the coating. In particular, very many plastics have a very small surface energy and are correspondingly difficult to bond. Often the aim of a plasma treatment is to make a surface wettable and bondable. The wettability can easily be tested with test inks. Diener electronic supplies a test ink set with 8 liquids with surface tensions between 30 and 73 (105) mN/m suitable for most practical applications. There is also a set of 23 test inks, with additional gradations between 30 and 73 (105) mN/m.

With just a few settings the plasma cutting units of the Smart Focus series achieve excellent results in the cutting range from 1 to 100 mm. Even under challenging conditions highest cutting quality and speed are realised. Therefore we use our proven cutting technologies as for example Contour Cut for cutting mild steel. The optimised gas control units and torches protect the consumables, reduce the gas consumption and the costs per cutting metre.

Plasma cutting operates by firing an electrically ionised heated gas (plasma) out of a nozzle at a high speed towards the metal. This will form an electrical ark within the gas. High level of heat is generated as electricity from the nozzle travels down this plasma. This heat melts the metal where cutting is achieved. Plasma cutters can cut stainless steel, aluminium, brass and copper along with mild steel. It’s particularly ideal for thick metal, up to 50 mm. If cutting highly reflective or very thick sheets of metal is required, plasma should be the ideal cutting method. Our modern steelwork fabrication shops have computer-aided design and detailing (CAD), which is linked directly to factory floor computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinery, creating a genuine seamless CAD/CAM environment.
