Ceramic ball bearings are fully resistant to corrosion as both the external and internal races are made of stainless steel, while the inner cage is made of plastic material, which is resistant against high temperatures. Thanks to the low friction of the ceramic balls, the seaming rolls require a reduced lubrication – up to five times less than standards. This saves time for the operators and the machine downtime, allowing increased production.

Thanks to our experience in this industry, Imeta has developed new assemblies for some older seaming rolls. These include the “Easy System” type roll for the Angelus P Series, and the “Super Seal” type roll for any seaming machines. These can reduce roll maintenance time and costs.

In addition to the bare rolls, Imeta offers – as an optional service – the seaming rolls preassembled with their pins and bearings. Seaming rolls are then provided already set and lubricated, ready to be mounted, allowing significantly shortened machine downtimes. The assembly is carried out by our skilled technicians using all the correct tools and equipment such as the hydraulic press and the dynamometric wrench. Potentially using certain old items (pins, bottom plates, dust covers), that maybe still in good condition, it is also possible to provide partial assemblies according to the client’s needs.

Depending on the client’s needs, seaming chuck lips can be provided with the following superficial finishing features smooth, sandblasted or knurled.

Ceramic seaming rolls can increase production efficiencies and reduce machine downtimes by eliminating or significantly reducing many problems deriving from wear, corrosion and superficial damage. There is a low friction coefficient and they are approved by the USFDA.

UCAR plating is applied on the lips of the seaming chucks in order to offer high wear resistance features, besides friction with the parts it is in contact with.

This chromium plating is used for some applications, such as seaming rolls for filters and deepdrawn aluminum cans. It guarantees a very good wear resistance and a low friction coefficient.

This coating is typically applied on seaming chucks and rolls and it extends their life up to three times. Surfaces coated with DIAMOND 98HRC have a very low friction coefficient, and as a consequence they have very high anti pickup features. Therefore, rubbing is reduced, and seams can avoid peeling.

PVD coating is commonly used on seaming chucks made of steel.

CVD coating is typically used for Stoody seaming rolls and chucks. Its main feature is its superior adhesion to the base steel, which provides a high resistance against wear and corrosion.

Seaming chucks and rolls made from tool steel are generally considered the industry standard for can factories, while canneries generally use stainless steel. Other types of steel are commonly used in the production of seaming chucks for Easy open covers, especially for those chucks that suffer from a weak chuck lip.

Imeta provides complete changeover kits for single and multistation Cevolani machines, depending on the type of can required by the Client. The standard kit includes design and manufacturing of all necessary tools, such as rollers and knives for parting stations, rollers and formers for beading stations, complete spin flanging heads, complete necking heads and seamer changeover parts.

Whereas necessary, all the cover feeders can include a pneumatic lid gapper (“No CanNo Cover”) in order to reduce the load on the feeding screws.

The linear magnetic measuring system TM+MP200 consists of the magnetic transducer TM and the magnetic band MP200. The transducer works contactless, releaving the polarized fields of the magnetic band and converting the measure into digital signals. The system can be profitably employed in severe industrial environments, in presence of water, oil or grease. The mounting method is easy and cheap and the measure is accurate and repeatable. The scanning head TM is contained in a compact and strong metal case, and it is available with reading resolution 0.1 mm (TM10) or 0.01 mm (TM100). An electronic zero pulse is generated each 4 mm (type TM10C/TM100C), or matching with one or more external magnets (TM10E/TM100E).

The small size encoders series RE40 feature great accuracy, compact size and stoutness. The incremental encoder RE40 can be supplied with different mechanical flanges: the type RE40 has 6 fixing holes on diameter 30 mm, while the encoder E40V has a front fixing screw, and the series RE40Q is provided with a square flange of mm 43×43. The types RE40M and RE40S are hollow shaft encoders designed for motor coupling, respectively by joint and by anti-rotational elastic metal support. For all the types the ppr no. ranges from 2 to 12500, with or without zero pulse (RE40 or RE41). The aluminium housing, with axial or radial cable gland, grants IP65 protection degree against environmental agents.

The range of incremental encoders fit to be coupled to motor shafts includes different mechanical types: the series RE400, with flange diameter 53.5 mm and RE470, with flange diameter 72 mm, provide a coupling joint, while the series RE410 and RE450 avail on a hollow shaft. Different measures are available for the joint hole and for the shaft diameter. All the types are housed in a metal case. The connection type and position can be chosen among different options, as well as the output signal formats. The pulses per revolution number ranges from 2 to 12500. The zero reference pulse option is available for all the series (type RE401/RE411/RE451/RE471)

The flexible joint mounted on the encoder shaft grants a very good coupling, without parallel and angular mis-alignment, and avoids overloads, which can damage the bushings life. Elap measuring wheels are fit for the use in touch with metal, steel profiles, varnished surfaces, plastic materials, paper, cardboard, wood, fabrics and leather; they offer an excellent resistance to oil, fuels, ozone and environmental agents.

Thanks to the Inverter group it is possible to remove the entire mechanic clutch group, that has over 30 different part numbers (50 items). This upgrade also has the advantage of bringing significant savings during the maintenance phase, not just as regards the items that are removed, but also in terms of the gears, pins and bearings, since “softer” operations will prolong their productive lifetimes.

The “DESMO” Kit for Angelus 60 L includes A desmodromic cam that controls both opening and closing of roll levers at any speed A desmodromic cam that guarantees the return of the extractor shafts at any working speed A series of seaming levers allowing the adjustment of seaming rolls and very fast changeover with no need of dismantling the levers.

This conversion kit consists of six larger driven lifters, a pair of stainless steel turrets with upper splined hubs, and a rugged central splined shaft. There is also a range of optional extras that can be provided with the Gear Driven Lower Lifters in order to further improve their performance.

Imeta has also developed Cover Feeders that can feed aerosol tops and bottoms and special components such as varnish rings or deepdrawn covers, as well as a wide range of special feeders with three or four screws for rectangular or oval covers.

Following the great success of the AP0158.4 Cover Feeder, Imeta has also developed a simpler version of a one or threescrew cover feeder for the entire Angelus P Series. This upgrade has been particularly popular for feeding Easy Open covers, which are very difficult to feed with the original dualshaft feeder. This feeder has the same advantages of simple adjustment and performance reliability.

This feeder was initially designed for installation on the Angelus 60 L and was then adapted for many other machines. The innovative feature here is that the feeding screw is inclined and parallel to the cover stack, making the feeding more natural and fluid. This feeder is adjustable and, with the substitution of just a few parts, it is suitable for any cover diameter (between 50 and 105mm).

Imeta provides complete changeover parts for Lanico flanging, necking and seaming machines, for any type of can a customer may be running. The standard kit includes base plates, seaming chucks and seaming rolls with coatings, in order to offer a longer productive lifetime. Partial changeover kits can be provided if, for example, straight cans need to be necked.

The 60L seaming machine is a multifunctional machine that meets the most diverse manufacturing needs, from cans for food or drinks, to canmaking, aerosols, composite cans and general line cans. Imeta has the necessary knowhow to transform and equip such a machine depending on different can and cover specifications, even beyond the original standard set up.
