Gear hobbing on CNC lathes without B-axis Years ago, EWS was the first tool manufacturer to offer gear hobbing heads in its standard range, and has continued to develop the holders for gearing technology ever since then. With this technology, it became possible for the first time to produce external gearing on machines without a Y/B-axis. In contrast to a standard milling wheel holder, the tool head of the EWS modular cutter can be swivelled about the axis of the shank. This offers users the advantage of substituting a B-axis with a comparatively small investment. In the meantime, module 3 has become commonplace on VDI40/BMT65/BMT75 machines. The tool heads have become more stable at the same time as being more user-friendly. The alignment system using a sinusoidal profile has come into widespread use and saves considerable alignment and setup times. The core technology is a robust, water-cooled travelling column. With increasing depth of immersion into the material, the guide carriage distance grows and this leads to advanced rigidity. The stepped drive guide ensures a perfectly constant geometry along the Z axis. This in turn guarantees maximum rigidity in sensitive areas of the workpiece. Used in combination with the highly dynamic Zimmermann milling heads, the FZH400 ensures an extremely efficient milling process during the machining of aluminum and composites. The versatility of the M3ABC 3-axis milling head improves efficiency due to the maximized material removal rate, in particular when machining structural parts. An integral standard component of the FZH400 is its pallet handling capability with an area for setting up pallets during machine operation. The newly developed handling system permits the reliable transportation of the pallets, is suitable for longer pallet lengths, and can be extended without difficulty.

With the FZ100 Portal Milling Machine Zimmermann has managed to achieve 6-axis machining using the patented in-house developed M3ABC 3-axis Milling Head. This concept sets new standards in the volume machining of aluminium, composite and model making materials as well as in the High Speed Cutting of steel and cast iron, where conventional 2-axis fork heads with A- and C-axis have long reached their limits in the 5-axis simultaneous machining. The portal milling machine FZ40 compact is designed for the machining of hard materials as well as aluminum. The inherently rigid machine structure allows for simultaneous 5-axis high speed machining. This compact machine, with its solid cast base does not require a foundation. The machine table is integrated into the cast baseplate, which allows up to 16 metric tons of table load. Eight mounting elements of the FZ40 compact reduce vibration – the basic requirement for high accuracy and optimum surface quality. The sidewalls are filled with a special dampening concrete mix to further enhance performance. The machine has a fully enclosed working space with a fixed machine table. The structural sound overhead gantry with a reinforced Z-ram make up the moving masses. By adding our new dynamic milling head VH60, Zimmermann has created a powerful performer. The combination of high strength and rigidity, constant moving masses and dynamic drives, will meet the industries high demands.

The KKF3-SL, a universal chamfering and contour milling machine, has a measuring head attachment. Tools with a shaft diameter from Ø6-12 mm can be clamped in the milling cutter support. Our versatile tool range includes different VHM milling cutters and blade heads. The VHM milling cutters are available for the processing of chamfer angles and radii. Ball bearings with Ø6 or Ø8mm are used for contour processing with the VHM milling cutters. Tapered contour chamfers are used in combination with optional guide fingers or stop rulers. The use of cutter heads with cutting inserts and guide ball bearings starting at Ø10mm permit maximum efficiency. A guide prism with VHM shaft chamfering can optionally be used for straight edges. The exact chamfer setting is performed through a micrometer screw. A chamfer width of up to 6mm at 45° is possible in steel. In NE metals, significantly larger chamfers are possible depending on the tool and angle.
