With XChange from LMT Fette, with its patented interface, for the fi rst time it has been possible to combine the advantages of carbide and steel in a modular tap. Approximately 90 % of the taps used nowadays are still made from high-speed steel. This is because this cutting material is featuring the requested toughness for absorbing the torsional moment as well as the necessary load at the cutting edge when rewinding the tap. HSS, however, is having some disadvantages also, compared to solid-carbide taps: tool life and most importantly the feasible cutting speeds and cycle times are significantly lower. With XChange two physically prohibitive properties has been combined: The solid-carbide threaded head, a combination of ultra-fine grain carbide and high performance coating, is providing: - maximum tool life - and high cutting speeds The flexible steel shank guarantees - the stability of the tool - and offers extra efficiency

COD Sinter-HIP furnaces combine the dewaxing, vacuum-sintering and subsequent isostatic densification under pressure gas up to 100 bar of sinter parts made of hard metals or ceramics. COD furnaces optimize all the necessary process functions and combine them in one production equipment and process cycle in an optimal, fully automatic and reproducible manner. Applications: Vacuum- and pressure sintering of hard metal products, PM-high-speed steels and ceramics. CBN (cubic boron nitride) is the next hardest material after diamonds. When properly used, tools made from CBN exhibit considerably less wear than other materials. Cutting inserts or even VHM tools can be equipped with CBN. Technical application: Hardened tool steels with hardnesses greater than 55 HRC or high speed steels (HSS) can be machined without problems using CBN. Case hardened steels and chilled cast iron can also be machined with CBN. Non-ferrous metals are totally unsuitable for CBN; diamond tools are needed for these.

With the FZ100 Portal Milling Machine Zimmermann has managed to achieve 6-axis machining using the patented in-house developed M3ABC 3-axis Milling Head. This concept sets new standards in the volume machining of aluminium, composite and model making materials as well as in the High Speed Cutting of steel and cast iron, where conventional 2-axis fork heads with A- and C-axis have long reached their limits in the 5-axis simultaneous machining.
