Aluminiumwerk Unna AG is specialised in the production of Aluminium tubes. The Aluminium tubes are extruded on site using two possible methods. These are either Seamless extrusion or Porthole extrusion. It is quite simple to distinguish between the two extrusion methods. In seamless extrusion, a mandrel is positioned and fixed inside the extrusion die, creating the inner contour of the tube. In porthole extrusion, the mandrel is fixed and is supported by a number of integral bridges affixed to the outer portion of the extrusion die.

In the aluminium industry, the porthole extrusion process is the standard method for the production of extruded tubes and profiles. The process is limited to a number of aluminium alloys. However, most of the commercially available medium strength aluminium alloys such as EN AW-6060 or EN AW-6082 can be extruded by porthole extrusion.

Typical gases are carbon monoxide, natural gas and air. The temperature change, which occurs at expansion of gas or gas mixture from a high to low pressure i.e. after a gas pressure control is called Joule-Thomson effect. In order to prevent the effects of Joule-Thomson as icing or condensate separation, the gas will be heated up before expansion. The gas pre heaters are suitable for all kind of gaseous media (i.e. air, natural gas, technical gases, fuel gas) and low flow process applications, suitable for pressures up to 300 bar. The “Cast electric heaters” type flameproof electrical gas pre heaters are certified for use in zone 1 or 2 hazardous area, custom built to meet client specification. The gas pre heater consists of a process tube coil and an electrical heating bundle, casted in aluminium. The process gas flows through the tube coil and is heated by the aluminium block that provides the heat transfer. This indirect electric heating gives an accurate control of the process and eliminates pressure vessel design and associated costs.

In coil coating, an organic coating is applied to the surface of a metal strip in a continuous process. Occasionally also these terms are used for cartridge heates: heating cartridge, insertion heaters, spiral cartridge heaters. As a rule cartridge heaters consist of a cylindrical stainless steel tube and thus provide a high corrosion prevention. There is a heating wire inside which is wound onto a ceramic core. The number of coils varies depending on the power. In order to avoid a short-circuit, the cartridge heater is filled with magnesium oxide and compressed afterwards. Highly compacted they reach a surface watt density of up to 50 W/cm² and withstand highest stress. In the plastics industry cartridge heaters are used in hot runners in order to temper thermoplasts during injection moulding processes. Other areas of applications for process heat are e. g. packaging, diecasting or continuous casting in which zinc or aluminium are processed. Further applications are to be found in mechanical as well as medical and laboratory engineering.

Optimum crushing instead of cable salad The very best method for crushing of cables or electrical scrap has brought many a tool to its limits and yet this is a frequently underestimated source of money. In addition to expensive copper, the recycling process also recovers aluminium and noble metals. In order to reach these valuable raw materials, robust preliminary crushing units are used, followed by a second crushing cycle. The demands on the crushing knives cannot be ignored and they must therefore be very tough. Anodizing stands for electrolytic oxidation of aluminum and is a process for strengthening the natural oxide layer present on aluminum through anodic oxidation. Unlike traditional electroplating processes, anodizing dissolves the top layer of aluminum and converts it into aluminum oxide. The resulting oxide layer protects the underlying workpiece from corrosion.

This type enables reactive hot-melt adhesives, such as Polyurethane (PUR) or Polyolefine (POR) from aluminium cartridges to be processed. It is also possible to work horizontally or overhead. The devices are equipped with an innovative level control to provide information on the fill level in the cartridge.
