POLIFILM has been successful with surface protection films for more than 40 years. As one of the global suppliers of surface protection films POLIFILM offers a wide range of surface protection solutions for a large variety of different surfaces and requirements. As a main and proven component of typical protection films polyethylene is used. For specific applications other polyolefin resins or polyester are used as carrier components. Our adhesive systems use natural rubber as well as solvent- or water based acrylic components.

POLIFILM is one of the leading German suppliers of surface protection films for the automotive industry. The main application is the protection of the cars during transportation prior to the delivery to the final customer. The protection films avoid scratches as well as chemical defects as a result of e.g. bird drop. Our automotive transport protection films are tailored to the individual clear coat of specific automotive manufacturers. Our solutions offer a very high flexibility and thus conform like a second skin to the protected car bodies. Other automotive related applications include the protection of car carpets, lamp systems, the dashboard and entry sills / cover rails.

In addition to adhesive coated protection films, POLIFILM is also offering coextruded, uncoated yet self-adhesive films since more than 12 years. These protection film solutions combine the film manufacturing process (film extrusion) and the adhesive extrusion in one process. The traditional process requires typically at least 2 steps. This co-extrusion process presents a clear productivity gain also for our customers. We develop co-extruded protection films together with our partner, who has a long time experience in the development and production of cast films. Our joint technological experience presents an ideal platform for the development of ever more demanding requirements of our customers now and in the future.

POLIFILM surface protections films have been successfully used for the protection of decorative laminates for decades. Depending upon the gloss level of the laminates low adhesion level films (for high gloss surfaces) or higher adhesion films (for rougher finishes) are used. Typically transparent films are used as they allow quality inspection of the decorative surface without a need to remove the films for this process. For 2D and 3D applications with special requirements we offer several solutions. Co-extruded, uncoated protection films present a good solution for these requirements.

POLIFILM is offering a variety of solutions for glass protection. Typically transparent or translucent protection films are used for glass protection. For application, which do not require specific UV or weather resistance we have developed natural rubber adhesive systems, which can also be used for coated (low energy) glass. For applications with higher requirements concerning weathering performance we offer protection films with acrylic adhesives, which typically feature a 3 to 6 month weather resistance. In the United States of America POLIFILM developed an innovative product concept, which allows protection of glass under construction conditions for a period exceeding 12 months. This development was jointly conducted with Cardinal Glass.

POLIFILM offers protection film solutions for polyester based paint systems with different gloss levels, plastisol and also for PVDF based paint systems. For these applications we typically use high strength films with various adhesion levels. High strength films are able to resist formation forces of painted metals. The required weathering resistance of these films determines, which protection film can best match the customers` requirements. Typical weathering performance varies between 3 and 12 months. Our product assortment comprises transparent films and black / white films, which can be printed according to customer requirements. POLIFIM is an active member of the European Coil Coating Association (ECCA).

POLIFILM comes with a large product assortment of protection films for added value aluminium surfaces. For this application the quality of the carrier film needs to be very specific due to the sensitivity of the fairly soft aluminium. Our protection films are suitable for mill finish aluminium as well as for glossy and even high gloss, anodized aluminium finishes. In addition to traditionally proven natural rubber adhesive formulations we also offer acrylic adhesive systems including easy peel formula for increased productivity. Our research and development teams are permanently searching for ways to improve our surface protection films. New film components and new adhesive systems are developed to meet changing customer requirements in order to offer solutions which are “as good as necessary” and economical. One increasingly important area is the product range expansion of coextruded, uncoated films. About 50% of our research and development investment is allocated to this product group. This complements our experience with proven adhesive systems such as natural rubber adhesives, which present another core expertise of POLIFILM since decades. POLIFILM is offering surface protection films, that perform well for carpets for exhibitions. We also offer solutions for the protection of thermally formed automotive carpets, where high temperature resistance is required. For treated carpets POLIFILM developed a range of films with even higher adhesion levels. We supply solvent based acrylic solutions as well as environmentally even more compatible water borne adhesive systems.
