The workstation enables the manual serialisation of pharmaceutical packs and their aggregation into shipping cartons. For this purpose, each individual box is first printed with order-related serialisation data by a thermal inkjet printing system and then manually placed in a shipping carton. As soon as this is filled, the downstream thermal transfer printer creates an individual serialisation label. The correct print data and print quality are monitored by a camera system. The operator places the drug packs to be labelled at a reference edge of the conveyor belt. As soon as the printer has printed the serialisation data, it is checked for correctness by the integrated image processing system. In case of an error, the product stops at a certain position, which is marked by red LEDs. Depending on the number of products in the shipping carton/number of aggregation levels, approx. 10-12 products/min are serialised.

Based on a long tradition of ultrasonic processing KLN Ultraschall AG also today develops and builds edge-welding machines for textile back injection molded parts. Here in very complex fixtures the textile overlap is put around the part and fixed by means of special sliding technology. This is a highly complex task and requires sound experience in construction and optimisation of the assembly. Here the important know-how is the tool design and not the machine technology. After “edge folding” the stretched textile overlap is permanently bonded with the plastic by means of ultrasonic technology or permanently heated elements on the back of the plastic part.

In the last few years KLN has enlarged their hot plate welding machine program „TOOLMASTER“ and their vibration welding machine program “LVW” by the infrared welding program. The KLN machine program of „pure“ IR welding is based on the hot plate machine program „TOOLMASTER”. Machines for infrared heating should be equipped with servomotor drives in order to guarantee simple, quick and exact positioning. For welding by means of infrared technology short-wave (0,78-2 μm) as well as medium-wave (2-4 μm) infrared radiation of the spectrum can be used. This depends particularly on the radiation absorption capacity of the respective polymer material. The more precisely the radiator is adapted to the absorption capacity of the polymer material, the higher is the degree of efficiency, that means the conversion into warmth. Short waves are absorbed in deeper layers of the material, whereas medium waves heat it up more at the surface.
