The high-speed servo-hydraulic control of the mill screwdown closes the loop: The thickness values measured precise to the micrometre form the basis for quick and precise control. The Kuhnke FIO Controller 116 is a PLC based on i.MX6 with integrated CODESYS PLC. It is able to exchange data with other systems via industrial Ethernet and RS232. In addition, a built-in SD-card slot and a USB-interface allow local storage of process data. An interrupt input allows realizing fastest possible reactions on specific process events. As far as mechanic properties and form factor are concerned, the controller matches the FIO I/O modules, which can be attached directly to form a mechanically and electrically homogenous unit. Using an additional extender module also the control of remote EtherCAT slaves is possible. The compact steam superheaters of type series PVN reach high steam temperatures even at low process pressure. Due to the compact design and control concept, they are characterised by short response times, high control precision, and high availability (existing redundancies). In many cases, our steam superheaters are designed as a "stand alone" system and provided completely assembled with all necessary safety devices and controls. The customer must only provide the process connection and the electrical connection.

The combination of crane control and wireless control concept creates the link between an operator and a crane and thus makes optimum load handling a tangible experience. Absolutely safe operation of a crane or a system of several cranes must always be guaranteed – safety for the crane operator as well as for the transported goods and surrounding infrastructure. The smart Demag SafeControl system enables independent and continuous monitoring of a crane on the basis of a largely redundant control concept to bring the system to a standstill independently if any irregularities occur. Furthermore, dangerous conditions can be identified and prevented in advance. The crane operator can concentrate fully on his/her work at all times thanks to the safety control system. A crane can be conveniently and intuitively controlled by radio, which is also very efficient. The safety control system combined with radio control can ensure gentle handling and precise positioning of loads.

With Conventional Feed Lines, the focus lies on speed and material surface. That’s why Conventional Feed Lines are equipped with a Coil Reel for pull-off, a Straightener with variable frequency drive a coil loop and a Servo Roll Feed: the loop uncouples the more inert straightening process from the highly dynamic indexing process and thus allows for high line speeds and preservation of the material surface. Since productivity and capacity demands can vary significantly, we have created different control concepts: while small Feed Lines work with a simple pneumatic drag brake at the Coil Reel and an ultrasonic sensor to control the Straightener speed, the large Feed Lines get fully synchronized controls with motor-limited Coil Reels and a smart loop, creating a steady average speed of the whole line. This allows smooth pull-off of high coil weights while the loop remains very calm – in addition, the Servo Roll Feed can work with full dynamics, even at long indexing progressions.

Siempelkamp’s steel-cord conveyor belt presses distinguish by an innovative steel-cord tensioning concept: the controlled steel-cord tension distribution system increases production safety and improves product quality. The electromotive tensioning system, which is individually controlled and installed directly in the creel with integrated measuring and control functions, allows a 100%-control over the actual steel-cord tension distribution. The exact quality reporting enables our customers to optimize the production, hence the product’s quality. The new concept replaces the xed-nger comb used in previous systems with a roller comb. The friction between comb and steel cables is thus eliminated. Consequently, the abrasive wear on the galvanized steel cables is reduced. Unlike the traditional concept, the new roller comb prevents any variations in tension distribution. The O-forming press applies a press force of 4,000 metric tons per meter of pipe. This is necessary to form today’s material grades above X100 to the desired round shape at the optimum level of reduction. The control concept with (patented) multi-cylinder parallelism control ensures that the moving beam maintains a position parallel to the press table with a tolerance of +/-1 mm/m over the entire length. Combined with our tools, this results in a precise pipe gap which leads to signicant time and material savings for the subsequent welding process. The intelligent sensor and control concept of all main cylinders ensures that dierent sheet lengths (e.g., residual lengths) can be processed. The press is powered by either conventional drive concepts or via frequencycontrolled drive concepts. Our ECO Drive uses the high moving load of the moving beam to generate energy during the controlled quick lowering of the beam. This energy is fed back to the power network.
