Gas pipelines - Import export

With the development of CHARM®, Open Grid Europe is providing an efficient leakage control method for natural gas pipeline networks and thus an alternative to the labour intensive practice of conducting on-site inspections of the pipelines with gas detection devices. CHARM® is a highly accurate infrared laser system integrated in a helicopter that is capable of precisely detecting even very low methane concentrations from the air. Even in the case of very complex pipeline topologies, the course of the pipeline can be detected consistently on a large scale during the flight by an automatic, highly precise scanning beam control system (autotracking), thus ensuring a reliable leak tightness inspection of the natural gas pipeline.

Maintenance and repair work on the natural gas network is generally carried out with the pipeline being gas-free, so the relevant pipe sections are isolated by installing valve assemblies and the gas in the isolated section is vented to atmosphere. By using our mobile compressors – individually or in highly efficient parallel operation – the network operator can transfer the gas from the isolated pipe section to another part of the system so it does not have to be vented to atmosphere. Connection points for the mobile compressors are available e.g. in the area of the main line valves or can generally be retrofitted. It makes economic sense to transfer the gas to another as this guarantees responsible handling of this primary energy source and makes a substantial contribution to protecting the environment. Safety Relief Valves / Blow-Off Valves WITT safety relief valves (blow-off valves) protect against overpressure by venting excess gases from pipelines, gas receivers and other equipment. The spring-loaded, direct-acting safety relief valves (blow-off valves) are suitable for individual opening pressures from 5 mbar to 45 bar (approx. 0.07 to 1 435 psi). The compact size allows easy installation in any orientation. A dust cap protects the safety relief valves (blow-off valves) against dirt. WITT safety relief valves (blow-off valves) are available in brass or stainless steel, as a ventable version, and with or without condensation outlet.

Flashback Arrestors / Flame Arrestors WITT flashback arrestors / flame arrestors are used to protect single cylinders, outlet points or pipelines and can be used for almost all technical gases. Through the combination of established safety elements, flashback arrestors provide protection against flashbacks and backfire. Flashback arrestors also prevent the formation of dangerous gas mixtures within the pipeline. WITT flashback arrestors / flame arrestors meet all relevant standards (EN730-1/ISO5175), with the according tests from licensing offices such as the BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing). A 100% product control assures highest quality. The flashback arrestors / flame arrestors are mountable in any orientation and are available with all connections and in brass or stainless steel. High-quality materials and filters in the gas inlet provide long service life of WITT flashback arrestors.
