The wet product fed through the inlet nozzle is picked up by the rotor blades, applied on the hot wall and simultaneously conveyed towards the outlet nozzle at the opposite end of the body. The generated vapours are streaming counter-currently to the product flow and are leaving the dryer close to the feed nozzle. Evaporating and conveying capacity are adapted by the right rotor blade arrangement. Entrained particles from the dry zone are removed in the wet zone. Moisture levels of less than 1 % can be achieved. The residence time of the product is typically between 5 and 15 minutes. The outstanding heat transfer rate for hot solid products enables cooling of large amounts of solids in a compact machine compared to usually used cooling screws and without cooling air.In product melting like the melting of urea, the particles are heated up and molten inside the dryer. The melt can be mixed with other liquid and solid additives to improve the properties of the final products.

The Combined Fluidization Technology dryer (CFT dryer) offers an economic process for sticky products. CFT dryers combine the advantages of convective fluidized bed drying with contact drying. The CFT works with a hot mechanically fluidized bed. The feed material is distributed into this bed. It is fluidized by a rotating paddle system. Inside the fluidized bed the wet product is evenly distributed throughout the dry product. The volatiles evaporate instantly in contact with the hot particles, i.e. new solids are created at the location of evaporation. CFT dryers allow the handling of products, which cannot be handled in other types of contact dryers. Highly viscous, pasty, sticky, crust-forming states do not exist.

Due to its contained closed system and indirect heating of the product it is particularly suited for drying hazardous and toxic products to a very low final moisture content. As a result of its unique, very gentle mixing character, even mechanically sensitive products are not destroyed. The product quality after the drying process is reproducible and as good as that of the initial product, whereas the driving forces required are very low. The achievable, high endvacuum ensures low drying temperatures which is a clear advantage when drying temperature-sensitive products.
