De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) is a general contracting company capable of undertaking projects from their early definition stage up to full turnkey with post commissioning assistance, under a Single point responsibility. Such dialogue with the end-user or investors is essential in order to freeze the project concept and eliminate grey areas, thus avoiding overruns, extra expenditure and unforeseen delays. Especially in critical areas such as local construction works, DSEC’s experts will exercise full control on preliminary investigation and studies to ensure that the Full Responsibility Concept is guaranteed. Accurate budgets are often commissioned by DSEC’s customer with a view of checking project feasibility study hypothesis.

Through its heritage from Mr. Jean-Albert De Smet, inventor of the De Smet continuous counter-current solvent extractor, De Smet Engineers & Contractors has continued to work closely with the edible oil production sector, offering the integration of all processing units and related auxiliaries from seed storage to refined oil packaging. DSEC’s understanding of vegetable oil techniques provides a unique background for the implementation of a comprehensive project, being with its definition, its construction or its operation. Edible Oils Plants construction requires a deep specialization that De Smet Engineers & Contractors processes over years of experience in projects implementation around the world and a very capable team of engineers that masters every detail of Edible Oil Production as well as all the technical capabilities required. DSEC´s Contracting Services offers the client a wide variety of contractual setups from Conceptual Engineering, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to Full Turnkey (EPC) or EPCM to adapt to every client needs.

In the agro-industrial field, De Smet Engineers & Contractors is a well-known sugar diffusion expert. In addition, DSEC is the owner of the De Smet Diffuser design that was developed as an application of the well know edible oil continuous counter-current extractor invented by Mr. Jean-Albert De Smet. The De Smet Diffuser has been successfully used for beet diffusion and pre-scalding and remains one of the most efficient diffuser for sugar extraction in today’s cane industry. It is up to now the diffuser having by far the largest number of references. The De Smet Diffuser has also proved to be capable of processing alternatively both beet and cane in areas where tropical beet can be grown so as to extend the plant operation after the cane campaign.
