Separation by Fractionation - Thermal Separation by Vacuum Distillation

Heat-sensitive products with boiling points closer to the lighter and heavier fractions are difficult to separate in single-stage systems. The combination of distillation columns with thin-film evaporators as reboilers enhances the separation of these products. The large number of trays in the fractional distillation column allows for good yields and high purity of products. The short residence time in the reboiler, along with low operating pressures, prevents thermal degradation of the products. The purification of flavors and fragrances, special nutritional products, omega-3 fatty acids, heat-sensitive fine chemicals, or pharmaceuticals are some examples of applications for this process.
