The saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a bushy dwarf palm that occurs exclusively in the southeastern United States, growing up to four meters tall. It has fan-shaped leaves composed of 18 to 24 individual leaflets, which are sharply serrated at the edges. The flowers are arranged in densely hairy, spike-like inflorescences. The fruits resemble olives and turn dark red. They are single-seeded berries that turn black upon drying.
