Our Organic Negin Red Saffron is grown and hand picked by farmers in the Bulgarian mountains, free of pollution, pesticides and fertilisers. Saffron is the most expensive spice, as it takes 150 flowers just to make 1 gram of Saffron. This leads to much of the Saffron on the market being fake. Tiny impurities can be included to make it heavier, or other plant stamens can have colour added to then be sold as Saffron. Indeed, even the best quality Saffron may not have been stored correctly, as if it is not in an airtight tin, the light will quickly destroy the colour, aroma and flavour.
