This process is briefly referred to as blanketing (or padding). The tanks that undergo blanketing are atmospheric or low-pressure tanks; to minimize both product loss and nitrogen consumption, as well as to prevent the tank from being damaged by excessively high or low pressure, the pressure of the nitrogen must be controlled very precisely.
