Evonik has been producing acrylic acid in Marl since 1991. With time, the acrylic acid plant has become one of the largest acrylic acid plants in the world. Acrylic acid is a highly reactive monomer that is used to produce a large number of different compounds and polymers and is a starting material for polyacrylic acids, plastics and synthetic coatings. Acrylic acid (GAA) is the main raw material used in the manufacture of superabsorbents (SAP).
