Un extincteur doit faire l’objet d'une vérification annuelle effectuée par une personne ou un organisme compétent, mais aussi d’une maintenance tous les 5 ans et d'une révision complète tous les 10 ans. L'extincteur doit être marqué d'une étiquette clairement identifiable et plombé par la personne ou l’organisme ayant réalisé l'intervention.
