... "scriptoria," that the art of bookbinding flourished. For centuries, bookbinders have been reproducing the same techniques. At La Lumière, slowly, meticulously, passionately, 10 bookbinders continue to practice sewing with a needle and gilding with a finisher. They also offer cold glued binding, where the sheets are glued by hand and reinforced on the back with cloth. The materials used include leather, synthetic leather, faux leather, and canvas.

Proper monitoring of the retting process is essential to successfully complete the cultivation. Currently, we produce in Wevelgem (Belgium) and in France (Le Neubourg). The capacity of these two entities amounts to more than 4,000 hectares or around 30,000 tons of straw flax per year.
