Our factory is located in the northernmost part of Baden-Württemberg, between the Odenwald and Spessart regions. This gives us short distances to the best growth areas and access to excellent wood. In fact, for example, the larch used in our original greinDIELE comes from forests that are no more than 100 km away from the factory. Our distribution routes to Würzburg, Aschaffenburg, Heilbronn, and the Rhine/Main area are equally short. Out of conviction, we have always worked exclusively with local materials and do not trade in products made from tropical wood or wood from Eastern European forests. We have lived the philosophy of responsible use and care of the local forest for several generations. We have also preserved the original knowledge about wood and continuously passed it on. Winter-felled round timber is first air-dried for a long time after being sawn. This relieves the tension in the wood and prepares it for kiln drying. Only then is the material gently dried to about 8% wood moisture content. This value has proven to be ideal for indoor use based on years of experience. The quality of each individual board is checked multiple times by experts during the production process: drying, fit, and planing quality must always meet the highest standards. The Grein sawmill was founded in 1836 in Boxtal, directly on the Main River between Würzburg and Frankfurt. That was almost 180 years ago, and a lot has happened since then: Initially operated as a pure sawmill, it was gradually expanded and invested in new technologies. The family business has grown, and the product range has been expanded. The experience and extensive knowledge about wood have always been passed on to the next generation and supplemented with new insights. With the current managing directors Wilfried and Alexander H. Grein, the company is now in its third and fourth generation of family ownership. Even today, Grein pays attention to many details that traditional carpenters still appreciate, but which large industrial companies usually no longer have time for. This benefits the quality of the products and, of course, the customers. The sawmill continues to operate successfully, but it also produces a large part of the goods for its own planing mill. Here, solid wood floorboards, terrace boards, fence slats, facade cladding, and other planed products have been manufactured for many years. The combination of tradition, experience, and the courage to innovate is the foundation for the long-term success of Grein. We at Grein GmbH & Co. KG believe that tradition and progress are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary: only those with many years of experience are able to recognize and utilize new developments correctly. Since 1836, it has been our goal to produce the highest quality products through constant improvements and innovations.
