The Fraunhofer Institute for Electronic Nanosystems ENAS is the expert and development partner in the field of Smart Systems and their integration for a wide range of applications. Smart Systems connect electronic components, micro and nanosensors, as well as actuators with interfaces for communication and an independent power supply. As a reliable innovation partner, we develop high-precision sensors, new sensor and actuator systems based on integrated nanostructures, Beyond-CMOS components, innovative integration technologies, advanced reliability concepts, and complement them with innovative approaches in areas such as simulation, data analysis with artificial intelligence, or system security. In its technology portfolio and market engagement, Fraunhofer ENAS focuses on five business areas: Micro and Nanoelectronics, Sensor and Actuator Systems, Technologies and Systems for Smart Power and Mobility, Technologies and Systems for Smart Health, and Technologies and Systems for Smart Production. Each business area has its own customer profile, addressing various points in the industrial value chain depending on the required research and development services. Organizationally, Fraunhofer ENAS is divided into six specialist departments: Advanced System Engineering, Micro Materials Center, Multi Device Integration, Nano Device Technologies (formerly the Back-End of Line department), Printed Functionalities, System Packaging, and administration. The main location is Chemnitz. The Advanced System Engineering department is located in Paderborn. Additionally, the Micro Materials Center has a project group in Berlin-Adlershof.
