An evening walking tour in Ghent during which you will discover the most important sightseeing places, the red light district and the Belgian beer and food culture. The group is met by our guide at the Square ‘Zuid’. As quite a lot of European cities Ghent can also boast about its “red light district”. Our guide leads us for two hours through the charmingly lit streets of the historical center. Starting point is “het Zuid”, within a stone’s throw of the notorious “Glazen straatje” , officially known as the “Pieter Vanderdonckt passage”. But this evening walk has much more to offer than barely the world’s oldest profession. Lots of other places worth seeing are St Bavo’s cathedral (exterior) , the belfry, the St Nicolas church, the City Hall, the Friday Market Square. A funny pub hopping tour under the command of the Belleman, a member of the ancient and honorable guild of town criers is followed by a dinner in a typical Ghent restaurant where all the dishes are made with a base of beer. One of our fellow workers meets you at an exact location (hotel, coach parking,…). A transfer to the inner city by boat with aperitif is optional. Led by the town crier we make a two hours’ walk through the inner city. A maximum of three criers can be provided. In a funny way he explains the history and the places of interest of this vibrant city. Of course also featuring are pubs and pavement cafés. We stop in two of them and taste a local beer. The Market Square of Brussels is one of the most beautiful squares of Europe and is the central location of our evening program. Welcome by our guide at the Market Square. Meeting point: The Brewers’House. The Brewers’ House is the headquarter of the Belgian Brewers’ association and one of the oldest professional associations in the entire world. The building has been constructed between 1695 and 1698 and is the masterpiece of the architect Wilem De Bruyn and sculptures Marc De Vos and Pieter Van Dievoet. In the cellars of the building we can find the brewers’ museum. 18H00-19H00: visit with our guide of the Market Square and environment where you will admire the most important buildings in Brussels. Discovery of Antwerp and ….gin! Welcome by our guide at the Central train station (or on another location chosen by you in the center of Antwerp). Meet and greet by our guide at the Antwerp Central station (or another location to be agreed). We start with a visit of the Central Station, built late 19th century in eclectic style and by the Antwerpers also known as ‘The Railway Cathedral’. We then walk through the diamond district. For centuries Antwerp has been synonymous with diamonds. Although diamond processing has been largely relocated to other continents, the diamond trade still plays a very important role in Antwerp. It is a colourful neighbourhood where all kinds of nationalities are at home and in high the Jewish community is dominant. We continue our walk over the Keyserlei and the Meir (Antwerp’s shopping street) into the direction of the old city center. Welcome by our guide at a place chosen by you in the historical center of Bruges (hotel, coach parking,..). Bruges has a lot of culinary assets. No other Belgian town has more gastronomy to offer. The Groeninge Museum for example ranks among Belgium’s top three. We need about eight hours to show you all the highlights of Bruges. Morning: We start our day with a cruise on the canals of Bruges. Being seen from a different angle Bruges’ loveliest places look even more charming. In the Groeninge Museum we find an excellent survey of works by Belgian painters from the 15th century till today. This museum boasts a complete collection of the Flemish Primitives like Van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Hugo van der Goes, Hans Memling and Pieter Brueghel. In the modern art section we find Paul Delvaux, René Magritte, Constant Permeke and Gustave van de Woestyne . We continue over the Dijver. During this three hour journey by bus and on foot in the pedestrian area we visit all the must-see places of Brussels. Our guide meets you at a prearranged location (Central Station, Grand Place, hotel, …) and we start a sightseeing tour by bus covering all Brussels’ places of interest: the Atomium, the Royal Palace of Laken, the Japanese tower and the Chinese pavilion, the Cinquantenaire Park, the EU-quarter, the Palace of Justice, the Warandepark, the Wetstraat/ Rue de la Loi, the cathedral of the Saints Michael and Gudule, … . About the culinary bike tour from Bruges to Damme We cycle from Bruges to Damme along the famous historical canal de Damse vaart (the canal was dug by order of Napoleon) in small groups of maximum 15 persons. Each group is accompanied by a guide. Along the way we take dinner or lunch in 3 different restaurants (first course – main course – dessert).
