Not far from the chemical park in Brunsbüttel, on the outskirts of Hamburg, the predecessor of today's BST Buck Systemtechnik GmbH was founded in 1989. In initial smaller projects within the chemical sector, the engineers around founder and owner Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Buck quickly specialized in control engineering tasks for the chemical and process engineering industry. This focus remains in this sector to this day. The BST team quickly gained a broad knowledge base around batch-oriented and continuous production processes through the demands of its customers. In particular, the application of SIMATIC Batch from Siemens has become a specialty of the engineers from Dithmarschen. With the discontinuation of the proven control system TELEPERM M, another business area opened up for BST employees, enabling the migration of existing systems to the successor system SIMATIC PCS 7. Especially the tight time frame in migration projects and the requirements from the customer environment led the specialists at BST to establish another pillar with simulation technology. The type of simulation they apply is based on the fact that created user programs are intensively pre-tested with this intermediate step, allowing for further reduction of conversion time windows. Another application that arises from this is operator training centers, where users can be better prepared for modifications. Tasks from the IT sector, closely linked to process control technology, allowed the company founder to solidify another foundation for the business. Today, several IT specialists are engaged in the realization of database applications ranging from Microsoft Access to Oracle. They implement a variety of applications in close coordination with end customers, requiring extensive software development. Through close collaboration with Siemens in the field of process control technology, it was only natural that BST became a partner of Siemens' Manufacturing Operations Management products as early as 2003. Initially, a competence center for the laboratory information system SIMATIC IT Unilab was established in Brunsbüttel. In this business area, our employees model requirements from laboratory operations and implement them in terms of data. Furthermore, BST has already realized other projects in the SIMATIC IT environment. From simple historical data collectors and the presentation of data using web technology to complex interfaces in the SAP environment, products from this software class have been successfully deployed. BST is not only successful in the chemical industry. With the Bremen division of the company, numerous projects have already been implemented in various sectors.
