As UVC sterilisation becomes more prevalent, Knight Optical can offer UV domes to house LEDs and LED arrays, as well as other light sources. We stock ready-to-order 50mm and 100mm UV fused silica domes with high transmission down to 185nm, meaning it encompasses the traditionally used UVC light sources – KCl excimer lamps (222nm), mercury lamps (254nm) and LEDs (265nm, 273nm and 280nm). Knight Optical can also provide custom domes, including with a flange for easier mounting, manufactured from UV fused silica. Also available are optical coatings to enhance the performance of the dome. Quality Assurance All optical components are tested in our state-of-the-art metrology laboratory to ensure they meet every specification, and then 100% visually inspected by our highly trained quality technicians. Knight Optical can offer UV Fused Silica Windows for Vacuum Applications. UV Fused Silica is a relatively hard optical glass with a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This means that it is a good choice for us in Vacuum applications, as any difference in temperature will not affect the optical performance. In addition to the above, UV FS has high transmission from UV to NIR meaning that there is little loss of image when it is used for a Vacuum Window/viewport and therefore the quality of the optical system is not compromised. Knight Optical supply precision optical components to customers within the chemical analysis industry. Gas cells are used in spectroscopy for identification of the contents of gases. The path length and window material are chosen for analysis of different concentrations and types of gas. Depending on the types of gases being analysed, the windows in a gas cell can be made from NaCl, KBr, CaF2, BaF2, or ZnSe and will be chosen depending on bandwidth, to meet the customer’s application. Intense Pulsed Light Systems use not only use filters, that are used to filter out the UV wavelength range; and transmit between 400-1200nm for use within cosmetic lasers that are designed to remove unwanted hair, vascular treatment and even acne treatment. But they also use Homogenizing Rods to help evenly distribute light. The Light source will enter a light pipe at a variety of incident angles, which is designed to utilise its total internal reflection to channel the light from the entrance of the light pipe to the exit. The material’s refractive index is the only factor which affects the light pipes critical angle; this defines the angle of acceptance which the total internal reflection will occur at.
